Firgo Roof Leak Investigation
Wondering about the leaking roof at a property in Firgo? You can book a roof leak investigation in Firgo and across Hampshire.
- A leak that comes and goes with the weather
- Drips in the loft during heavy rain
- Wet patches high on an inside wall
Roof leak investigation in Firgo: what you get
We use moisture detection and thermal imaging where they help. Moisture readings show which materials are wet. A thermal camera shows patterns of temperature rather than water, so we confirm what it suggests with moisture readings. Moisture detection is included in the Standard Survey, and thermal imaging in Premium. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, on a dry roof with little wind. Common reasons to book are ceiling stains that grow after rain and water coming in around a roof light or dormer, across rooflights and dormers, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters.
Somewhere as small as Firgo, older roofs have often been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, and the difference matters, particularly to an insurer. We look at whatever is safely visible and set out what we find. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.
What you get is a clear record of the leaking roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Firgo
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.
Your questions about roof leak investigations in Firgo
Do you cover Firgo?
Yes, Firgo is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Do you cover smaller places like Firgo?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
How do you tell a leak from condensation?
It’s a common question. A leak typically shows in one area and follows rain, while condensation is frequently widespread and worst on cold days. The report explains which it looks like and what to do.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys run on any day of the week. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Is the repair included in the leak investigation?
Our job here is to trace the leak and explain it, not to carry out the repair. With the report, a roofer knows exactly where to look.
How experienced are you?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
How much is a survey?
Roof leak investigation starts from £150, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT.
What we cannot see
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:
- The repair itself (the investigation finds and reports the cause)
- A promise to find every leak on a single visit
- Water from pipes, tanks or heating systems
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.
What this survey covers
- Slate and tile slopes
- The roof space
- Flat roof details
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Rooflights and dormers
- Chimney stacks
- Lead flashings
What happens on the day
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take about 1–2 hours at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older roofs in small places like Firgo can have low, tight loft spaces, so it is useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- You get in touch with details of the leak and any photos.
- Inside, we check the damp area and the roof space above it.
- Outside, we look at every likely route in.
- Moisture readings and thermal imaging are used where they help.
- Your report sets out where the water is most likely getting in, with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch

Related advice
Should I look at the roof myself first?
It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Leave it or get it looked at?
If a leak has been ‘fixed’ before and has come back, the cause was probably missed. A careful investigation looks at every likely route, not just the obvious one. That is often what breaks the cycle. Outbuildings and barns around Firgo are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £150, including VAT.

Signs you need a roof leak investigation in Firgo
Every flat roof covering has a working life. Felt frequently lasts around 15 to 20 years, and as it ages it splits, blisters and opens at the laps. Upstands and outlets are common weak points.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Stains around a skylight
- Damp ceilings under a flat roof
- Staining around the chimney inside
- Damp walls below an overflowing gutter
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Testbourne Community School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.
Before you book anyone
- Whether the price includes VAT
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- How long they’ve been surveying roofs
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
Firgo roofs and the weather
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask.
If you let a flat or house near Whitchurch (Hampshire) station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.
