What we’re asked to look at in Forest Side

Many leaks begin at a flashing. Lead or mortar closes the gap wherever a roof meets a wall, chimney or dormer. Once that seal cracks or lifts, water gets behind it.

A survey can pick up problems like:

  • A leak that comes and goes with the weather
  • Condensation that looks like a leak
  • Brown rings on upstairs ceilings
  • Water coming in around a roof light or dormer

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St. Mary's Church, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney.

  • Whether you get a written report with photos
  • Are they insured for the work?

About our roof leak investigation in Forest Side

We investigate roof leaks in Forest Side and across London and the South East. We visit on weekdays and at weekends. We look inside and out, at flashings, valleys, chimneys, gutters and flat roof details. The findings come in a written report with photos. If water is coming in now, catch it in a bucket and keep it away from lights and sockets, and then phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email to arrange a visit. We survey slate and tile slopes, the roof space and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are leaks at a dormer or roof window and damp ceilings under a flat roof.

Somewhere as small as Forest Side, older roofs have frequently been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, and the difference matters, especially to an insurer. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it’s worth finding the cause soon.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Your questions about roof leak investigations in Forest Side

How do I find out if my home in Forest Side is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Is Forest Side within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Is the repair included in the leak investigation?

Our job here is to trace the leak and explain it, not to carry out the repair. With the report, a roofer knows exactly where to look.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days when you book.

How experienced are you?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.

What happens next?

The report arrives by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

What this survey cannot tell you

Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • A promise to find every leak on a single visit
  • Putting the leak right
  • Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Lead flashings
  • Flat roof details
  • Rooflights and dormers
  • The roof space
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book.

Why it is worth a survey now in Forest Side

Water damage grows the longer it is left. Damp spreads into rafters, ceilings and insulation. Finding the source early keeps the damage down. In a small place like Forest Side, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Our price is from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.

How it works

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take about one to two hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Somewhere like Forest Side needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen: where the stain is and when it gets worse.
  2. We check the stain, the ceiling and the loft above it.
  3. We check the likely entry points outside, such as flashings, valleys, chimneys and gutters.
  4. Moisture readings and thermal imaging are used where they help.
  5. We email a report with photos, the likely entry point and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

How to book

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or drop us an email whenever suits you.

Forest Side roofs and the weather

The coast is about 4 miles or less from Forest Side, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Strong wind lifts anything already loose, and driving rain gets in wherever it can, while salt slowly corrodes metal fixings and flashings. Carisbrooke Castle, about 1.3 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Forest Side. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If you live near a park like Seaclose Park, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. Anyone responsible for a site like Carisbrooke College will know that on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.
