Roof leak investigation in Hampton, Kent
Roof leak investigations in Hampton and the rest of Kent. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
- Water marks that spread in wet weather
- Staining where a gutter or parapet meets the wall
- Damp ceilings under a flat roof
What affects the price in Hampton
Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- How big the roof is
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.
Helping us price your survey
Some details help us point you to the right survey and price. When you contact us, it’s useful to mention:
- What’s prompted the survey
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or send us an email, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.
How a roof leak investigation works in Hampton
We use moisture detection and thermal imaging where they help. Moisture readings show which materials are wet. A thermal camera shows patterns of temperature rather than water, so we confirm what it suggests with moisture readings. Moisture detection is included in the Standard Survey, and thermal imaging in Premium. The best thermal results come after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If you’ve noticed leaks below a flat extension roof and water coming in around a roof light or dormer, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
In a smaller place like Hampton, some roofs face open ground, so wind and driving rain find any weakness in ridges, verges and flashings. A leak that only appears in certain weather frequently points to an exposed detail. Let us know when it happens when you get in touch. Gutters and downpipes on the exposed side are worth a look as well.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the leaking roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Hampton questions
Do you cover smaller places like Hampton?
Yes, Hampton is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Is my home in Hampton listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.
Why isn’t the leak directly above the stain?
Rain that gets in will run along whatever it lands on. On a pitched roof it often runs down a rafter before it shows. Tracing that path is the heart of a leak investigation.
How fast do I get the report?
That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.
Are you insured?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package.
Before and after the survey
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Let us know if there are tanks or pipes in the loft
- Keep a photo record of the damp patch
- Put a bucket under the drip and move valuables
- Do not touch fittings that water is reaching
Once the work is done, hold on to the report. If the leak returns, it is a useful record of what was found.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, particularly in autumn. Blocked outlets on parapet and flat roofs cause many leaks. Use a professional rather than climbing up yourself.
What happens on the day
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect between one and two hours for most homes, though a hard-to-trace leak can take longer. A visit to Hampton is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed beforehand. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.
- You get in touch with details of the leak and any photos.
- Inside, we check the damp area and the loft space above it.
- We check the likely entry points outside, such as flashings, valleys, chimneys and gutters.
- Moisture readings and thermal imaging are used where they help.
- Your report sets out where the water is most likely getting in, with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
Arrange a survey
If you are buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email whenever suits you.
Advice
Why act early in Hampton
A leak rarely stays small. Wet timbers start to decay, plaster softens and insulation stops working. Finding the source early keeps the damage down. Arranging work in a smaller place like Hampton is easier with notice than in an emergency. A survey gives you that notice.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

DIY checks: what’s safe
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Hampton roofs and the weather
Hampton is within about 1 mile of the coast, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. In a coastal gale, rain is driven sideways into laps, verges and flashings, and salt air slowly wears metal fixings. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask.
If you look after a building such as Hampton Primary School, a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside. If you let a flat or house near Herne Bay station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. The streets around a church like St Andrew's Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney.
Hampton is about 2 miles west of Herne Bay, in Kent. Hampton gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. Hampton is one of the places in Kent where we work for roof leak investigations. There’s also a page for Canterbury.
Here we cover the CT6 postcode area for roof leak investigations. We offer roof leak investigations to properties on Riley Avenue, Essex Avenue and Alvis Avenue. We also cover the places around Hampton: Swalecliffe (2 miles south-west), West End (2 miles south), Chestfield (2 miles south-west), Tankerton (2 miles west) and Radfall (3 miles south-west). Larger places within reach include Canterbury (6 miles south), Margate (12 miles east), Ramsgate (14 miles east), Broadstairs (14 miles east), Faversham (10 miles south-west) and Minster (13 miles west).
