Roof Leak Investigation in Myrke

Not sure what state the leaking roof is in? We carry out roof leak investigations in Myrke and across Slough, with plain-English findings.

  • Drips in the loft during heavy rain
  • A leak that comes and goes with the weather
  • Damp patches next to the stack

Roof leak investigations for Myrke homes and businesses

Before and after the survey

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:

  • Mention earlier attempts to fix the leak
  • Take dated photos of the leak
  • Put a bucket under the drip and move valuables
  • Leave roof access to professionals

Standard includes a follow-up consultation to talk the findings through, while Premium includes one in person. You can ask us about anything that isn’t clear.

Do not block the vents at the eaves. Good airflow reduces condensation, which is frequently mistaken for a leak. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Roof leak investigation in Myrke: what you get

Some leaks only appear in certain weather. Driving rain from one direction, melting snow or a gutter that overflows in a downpour can all set it off. Telling us when it happens helps a lot and so do photos. We look for the clues it leaves behind, such as tide marks, stained timbers and damp underlay. Moisture detection shows which materials are still damp. We survey rooflights and dormers, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are damp underlay across a wide area and a leak that comes and goes with the weather.

For a small place like Myrke, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned beforehand. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.

The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.

How the survey works

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. The survey normally takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Older roofs in small places like Myrke can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. You pick a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
  3. We inspect inside and out, starting from the stain.
  4. Where it is useful and included, we take moisture readings and use thermal imaging.
  5. You get photos, the likely cause and clear recommendations.

FAQs for Myrke

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Myrke?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Will you come out to Myrke?

Yes, Myrke is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.

How soon will I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.

What’s the best way to book?

Simply phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Why is the stain in a different place from the leak?

Water follows the easiest path, not the shortest. On a pitched roof it often runs down a rafter before it shows. Tracing that path is the heart of a leak investigation.

How do you tell a leak from condensation?

Many apparent leaks turn out to be condensation. Leaks tend to follow wet weather and show in one place, while condensation is often widespread and worst on cold days. The report explains which it looks like and what to do.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

Different roofs, different checks

Parapet and box gutters

We check the linings, joints and outlets where we can see them safely.

Flat roof upstands and outlets

Each flat roof relies on its outlets to drain. When one blocks, water ponds and finds any weak spot. Outlets and the area around them are checked.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Myrke

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Bigger roofs take more time.

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. Recommendations are set out by urgency where it matters.

What a roof leak investigation looks like in Myrke

With Windsor Castle about 1.2 miles south-west, Myrke sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.

If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Myrke, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it pays to find faults before guests do. Living close to Herschel Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Long Close School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.
