Boyden Gate Roof Survey
An experienced roof surveyor for roof surveys in Boyden Gate. Over 5,000 surveys and 20+ years behind us across London and South East England.
- Gaps in the roof where coverings have gone
- Debris building up in roof valleys
- Torn or sagging underlay
DIY checks: what’s safe
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
How a roof survey works in Boyden Gate
Our roof surveys cover Boyden Gate and the wider South East. We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Each survey ends with a written report, emailed with photographs and recommendations. Whether it’s a house, a flat or a commercial building, the process is the same. To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We survey ridges, hips and valleys, lead flashings and the roof space, and common reasons people get in touch are slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles and gutters that overflow in heavy rain.
Older buildings in small places like Boyden Gate may be listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials like clay tiles, slate and stone are often matched when work is done.
It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

Boyden Gate questions
Do roofs near the sea, like those around Boyden Gate, take more of a battering?
Generally, yes: wind and salt air take more of a toll near the sea. Exposed details such as ridges, verges, flashings and metal fixings are the ones to watch, and Boyden Gate is within about 3 miles of the coast.
How do I find out if my home in Boyden Gate is listed?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Is a roof survey the same as a structural survey?
No. If we see signs that need an engineer, such as serious sagging, we will say so. We don’t provide structural calculations.
How much does a roof survey cost in Boyden Gate?
Prices start from £150, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
How experienced are you?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where it is applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
Do you look in the roof space?
Usually, if there is one and it can be reached safely. The roof space can show things the outside cannot, like damp timbers, staining or daylight.
Roof surveys in Boyden Gate: local notes
Boyden Gate lies within about 3 miles of the sea, so there is more wind and more salt in the air than further inland. Salt corrodes metal fixings and flashings, and wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces, while driving rain finds any gap. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Living close to Grove Ferry Picnic Area is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn. Landlords with a home close to Herne Bay station may find that a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.
Boyden Gate is about 3 miles south-east of Herne Bay, in Kent. We visit Boyden Gate as part of our work across Kent, for homes and businesses alike. We cover towns and villages across Kent. There is also a page for Canterbury.

Roof by roof
Lead flashings and valleys
Lead-lined valleys and gutters are common on older homes. Worn or split lead lets water straight in.
Natural slate
Slate is one of the most durable roof coverings, yet the nails holding it often fail long before the slate. Slipped, cracked and missing slates are all noted, and for clips that show past repairs.
Common roof problems in Boyden Gate
Flashings seal the joints where a roof meets a wall or chimney. Lead can crack, lift or slip with age, and mortar fillets crack away from the wall. Lead is also a target for theft.
Problems we come across often include:
- Flashings that have come away from the wall
- Cracked or blistered flat roof coverings
- Torn or sagging underlay
- Leaking gutter joints and downpipes
Take a building like Chislet Church of England Primary School: long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

What we do, step by step
Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from every safe vantage point, take photographs as we go and make notes for the report. It typically takes an hour or two for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. For a village or hamlet like Boyden Gate, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- You get in touch with the address and anything you’ve noticed.
- A visit is booked for a weekday or a weekend.
- We check the roof from each safe vantage point, inside and out.
- Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all examined and photographed.
- We email a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets in another room

Tips from our surveys
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Keep the report with your property records
- Mention any damp patches as you book
- Clear the loft hatch area before we arrive
- Have details of recent roof work to hand
If you need work done, the report gives roofers a clear brief. They’ll see each defect and its location, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear of leaves and moss, ideally after the leaves have fallen. Use a gutter contractor rather than climbing a ladder yourself. Most overflow damage starts with a blocked gutter.
