About our roof survey in Church Whitfield
People book a roof survey for all sorts of reasons. Some have spotted a stain or a slipped slate, while others just want to know where they stand. Whatever the reason, the survey works the same way: we inspect carefully and explain what we see in writing. We survey on weekdays and at weekends, so finding a time is rarely difficult. If you’ve noticed torn or sagging underlay and ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on the roof space, flat roofs and clay and concrete tiles alike.
In a village or hamlet like Church Whitfield, older cottages and farmhouses frequently sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, often with chimneys that have stood a long time. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs often need the most attention.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Church Whitfield
By the time water marks a ceiling, it is often been getting in for a while. Insulation, plaster and timber can all be damp before you see a stain. A survey can pick up the early signs from the loft. In a small place like Church Whitfield, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both with VAT included. You’ll know the price for your survey before booking.

Roof by roof
Natural slate
From the loft, we check the underside of a slate roof. There may be old felt underlay, or none at all on very old roofs.
Concrete interlocking tiles
Mortar at ridges and verges often cracks on tiled roofs. We check for loose ridge tiles and missing mortar.
Before and after the survey
Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:
- Watch for slipped slates after bad weather
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Find records of any re-roofing or repairs
- Let us know about past leaks
Where it helps, we say which items are urgent. Some things need prompt attention, others can be planned for. That helps you decide what to do first.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation builds up when air cannot move, and it can wet timbers and insulation. Check insulation does not block the airflow at the eaves.
Questions from Church Whitfield
Can a landlord with a rental near Kearsney station book a roof survey?
Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. Just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the building.
Will you come out to Church Whitfield?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Does someone need to be in?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Do you give a life expectancy for the roof?
Not as a figure. The report explains the condition of each part and the signs of wear, with recommendations ranked by urgency.
Are you insured?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. Our report notes any materials that might, and a specialist asbestos surveyor should check them.
How long does the visit take?
It usually takes an hour or two at a typical home; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Report times depend on the package.
For landlords and managing agents
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
How it works
We check the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. All in, the survey usually takes about one to two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. Cottages and farmhouses around Church Whitfield frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
What a roof survey looks like in Church Whitfield
Church Whitfield lies within about 3 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
If you let a flat or house near Kearsney station, a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak. If you live near a park like Old Park Hill, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall. Walmer Castle lies about 4.9 miles north-east, so building around Church Whitfield goes back a long way. On a period home nearby, the survey separates sound original work from tired later repairs.
