Roof survey in Martin, Kent
Roof surveys for homes and businesses in Martin. More than 5,000 surveys completed across London and South East England.
- Slates or tiles that have slipped or broken
- Leaking gutter joints and downpipes
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the visit with that in mind.
About our roof survey in Martin
Our report is written in plain English, not jargon. Each defect is described with photographs and a recommendation, and where it is relevant we say what’s urgent and what can wait. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, a drone where applicable and a same-day report. Each report is emailed to you. If you’ve noticed valley linings that have cracked or split and loose ridge or hip tiles, we can find out what’s behind it.
Some older homes in villages like Martin are listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What we do, step by step
You don’t need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll take it from there. A typical survey takes an hour or two at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Somewhere as small as Martin, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We start with the property details and any concerns.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We look at the roof from each safe vantage point outside.
- Inside, we check the loft space where there is safe access.
- We email a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

What we look for on each type of roof
Clay plain and peg tiles
Handmade and machine-made clay tiles are long-lasting. We check for cracked, slipped and missing tiles.
Natural slate
Natural slate can last 100 years or more, yet the nails holding it frequently fail long before the slate. Slipped, cracked and missing slates are all noted.
Martin homes and their roofs
Martin is within about 3 miles of the coast, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Metal fixings and flashings corrode faster in salt air, while gales work at loose ridges, slates and tiles, while driving rain finds any gap. The wider area around Martin has a long history of building, with Walmer Castle about 3 miles north-east. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years.
If you let a flat or house near Martin Mill station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. Take an older house close to Church of St Augustine: its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look. Anyone responsible for a site like Langdon Primary School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.
Martin is about 3 miles north-east of Dover, in Kent. If you are in Martin, booking works exactly as it does anywhere else: get in touch, agree the price and pick a day. Martin is one of the places in Kent where we work for roof surveys. We also survey roofs in Canterbury.
Roof surveys in CT15 are booked the same way as anywhere else. If you need a roof survey at a property on The Street, Waterworks Lane and Ringwould Road or anywhere close by, we can survey it. Neighbouring places we cover for roof surveys include Martin Mill (1 mile south-east), East Langdon (1 mile south-west), West Langdon (1 mile west), Ringwould (1 mile north-east) and Sutton (1 mile north). Within a short drive, we also cover Canterbury (13 miles north-west), Margate (14 miles north), Dover (3 miles south-west), Folkestone (10 miles south-west), Ramsgate (12 miles north) and Broadstairs (13 miles north).
Near you in Martin
Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to The Lantern Inn and Duke of York's Royal Military School and the streets around them. There is a railway station in Martin itself: Martin Mill station. Nearby you will also find Royal Victoria Hospital (3.6 miles south-west) and St Margaret's Museum (2.5 miles south-east). For a walk, there’s Dover Western Heights.
What a roof survey does not cover
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:
- Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
- An exact number of years the roof has left
- Asbestos testing of any kind
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What we check
- Lead flashings
- Clay and concrete tiles
- Ridges, hips and valleys
- Natural slate
- Flat roofs
- The roof space
- Chimney stacks
Can I check my roof myself?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
What a survey costs
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- The shape of the roof and its details
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, including VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.
Helping us price your survey
There’s no need for technical words. Just tell us:
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Martin: your questions answered
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Martin Mill station?
Of course. Let us know whether a tenant or an agent will let us in, and we can send the report to you or your agent.
How do I find out if my home in Martin is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It depends on the weather and the survey. In high wind or heavy rain, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, and we’d agree another day.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it’s applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
How long does a roof survey take?
On site, it normally takes between one and two hours at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. Report times depend on the package.
How do I arrange a roof survey in Martin?
The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Let us know the address and a little about the roof, and we will suggest the right survey. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
