Roof survey in Edgehill
Our roof surveys cover Edgehill and the wider South East. We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and bring 20+ years’ experience. Each survey ends with a written report, emailed with photographs and recommendations. Whether it is a house, a flat or a commercial building, the process is the same. When you’re ready to book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Common reasons to book are water stains on rafters and ceiling joists and gaps in the roof where coverings have gone, across natural slate, flat roofs and chimney stacks.
Village roofs frequently face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.
After the visit, you get a written report with photographs, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Do you need a roof survey in Edgehill?
The underlay under the coverings matters too. Breathable roofing membranes came into use in the UK in the late 1990s, so older roofs frequently have bitumen felt, and very old ones may have none. Torn or sagging felt lets water through.
Common reasons to book include:
- Worn or blocked valleys
- Condensation or damp timbers in the loft
- Blocked, sagging or leaking gutters
- Flashings that have come away from the wall
The streets around a church such as Church of St Peter are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- What the report includes, and whether it has photos
- Is VAT included in the price?
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
Can I check my roof myself?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Your questions about roof surveys in Edgehill
Do you cover smaller places like Edgehill?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you cover Edgehill?
Yes, Edgehill is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Edgehill as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Let us know your preferred days when you book.
Do you carry out asbestos surveys?
No. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain asbestos. Our report notes any materials that might, and a specialist asbestos surveyor should check them.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Do I need to be at home?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you as you book.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it is applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Before you put a home on the market, it helps to know the roof’s condition. You can deal with defects before a buyer’s surveyor finds them, or at least know what to expect. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Edgehill, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
All our prices include VAT. Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.

Chimney stacks
We check the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings of each stack, as far as we can safely see them. Leaning stacks and loose pots are recorded.
Flat roof coverings
Some flat roofs have been coated over several times. We say what we can see and when a closer look would need opening up.
Landlords, agents and block managers in Edgehill
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. A photo-illustrated written report gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
How it works
Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take between one and two hours at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Around Edgehill, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start with the property details and any concerns.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- Outside, we inspect from the ground, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets in another room
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Find any records of previous roof work
