Roof survey in Ewshot
Everything we check, we check safely: from ground level, from windows and other vantage points, from inside the loft and from the roof itself where it is safe. Premium adds thermal imaging, plus a drone inspection where applicable, for roofs that are hard to see well. You do not need to do anything except give us access. Everything we see is photographed for the report. Typical surveys look at lifted, split or missing lead flashings and crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching, on clay and concrete tiles, flat roofs and ridges, hips and valleys.
In a small place like Ewshot, many roofs stand in the open, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Honest limits
Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- A structural engineer’s report
- An exact number of years the roof has left
- The condition of the rest of the building (that is a RICS home survey)
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

What we look for on each type of roof
Concrete interlocking tiles
Many post-war houses have concrete interlocking tiles. They’re heavy and hard-wearing, but their surfaces weather over the years.
Flat roof coverings
Felt flat roofs often last around 15 to 20 years, while EPDM rubber often lasts 30 to 50 years and GRP up to about 30. We check its condition and the signs of age.

Roof surveys around Ewshot
Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
If you live near a park such as Basingbourne Park, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. Farnham Castle lies about 1.9 miles south-east, so building around Ewshot goes back a long way. If your home is one of the older ones, the roof may have been repaired many times, and the survey records how each part is holding up.
Ewshot is about 2 miles south of Fleet, in Surrey. We survey roofs in Ewshot and the rest of Surrey, as part of our work across London and the South East. Ewshot is one of the places in Surrey where we work. There is also a page for Guildford.

The survey, step by step
We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes an hour or two at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. Older rural homes like those around Ewshot can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- You let us know the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- Outside, we inspect from ground level, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- We email a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Ewshot: your questions answered
How do I find out if my home in Ewshot is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Farnham station?
Of course. Let us know whether a tenant or an agent will let us in, and we can send the report to you or your agent.
Do you use drones?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
Do you cover Ewshot for roof surveys?
Yes. We carry out roof surveys in Ewshot.
Do I need to be at home?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
Can you survey a roof I share with a neighbour?
Yes. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Light rain is normally fine; heavy rain and wind are different. In strong wind or heavy rain, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, and we’d agree another day.

Blocked gutters cause a surprising amount of damage. Once leaves and moss block a gutter, water spills down the brickwork. Valley and parapet gutters can overflow inside the building, particularly near trees.
Things that often lead to a survey include:
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Lifted, split or missing lead flashings
- Crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching
- Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
Take an older house close to St Mary's Church: old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.
