Roof survey in Green Street, East Sussex
A roof condition survey for homes and buildings in Green Street, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photos.
- Cracked or blistered flat roof coverings
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Lifted, split or missing lead flashings
Practical tips
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- Tell us about any leaks or stains you’ve seen
- File the report with your home documents
- Gather any paperwork for past roof work
- Stay off ladders and the roof
We email the report to you, with photos of what we found. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. Each finding is set out in plain English.
After a storm, check the roof from the garden and the street. Slipped slates, lifted ridge tiles or pieces in the garden are signs something has moved. Prompt repairs stop small problems growing.
Roof surveys for homes and businesses in Green Street
Our roof surveys cover Green Street and the wider South East. We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Whether it’s a house, a flat or a commercial building, the process is the same. When you are ready to book, ring 07833 053749 or email us. If you’ve noticed torn or sagging underlay and loose ridge or hip tiles, we can find out what’s behind it, on ridges, hips and valleys, the roof space and chimney stacks alike.
Some older homes in villages like Green Street are listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. Knowing the roof’s condition helps you plan ahead with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

What we can’t see
A survey is a close look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. Its limits include:
- Confirmation of asbestos in soffits or cement sheets
- The condition of the rest of the building (that’s a RICS home survey)
- A promise that the roof won’t leak in future
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

Green Street: your questions answered
How do I find out if my home in Green Street is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Do roofs near the sea, like those around Green Street, take more of a battering?
Places near the sea get more wind and more salt in the air than inland, and both are hard on roofs. Salt corrodes metal fixings and flashings, and wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
How do I book a survey in Green Street?
Simply ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.
What do you check on a roof survey?
All the main parts of the roof: coverings, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys, gutters and the loft. Higher packages add moisture detection, structural checks, thermal imaging and a drone where applicable.
Why get it checked now?
Valley gutters and parapet gutters are out of sight until they overflow. When they do, water comes straight into the house. We check them before they cause trouble. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.
What you get with us
- 5,000+ roofs surveyed
- Over 20 years’ experience
- Drones and thermal imaging where it applies
- Packages from £150, including VAT
Different roofs, different checks
Natural slate
Natural slate can last 100 years or more, but its nails often corrode first. Slipped, cracked and missing slates are all noted.
Clay plain and peg tiles
Clay tiles commonly last 50 years or more. We check for cracked, slipped and missing tiles.
What you can safely check yourself
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.
It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
What happens on the day
You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes about 1–2 hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. Somewhere as small as Green Street, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- You let us know about the property and any concerns.
- We agree a date, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We inspect from ground level, from windows, from the loft space and from the roof where safe.
- Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all examined and photographed.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Leave side gates unlocked

Advice
Green Street homes and their roofs
The coast is about 3 miles or less from Green Street, and being near the sea means more wind and salt than a roof inland would face. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, and strong wind lifts anything already loose on a roof. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
If you own a rental within reach of Crowhurst station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. With Durhamford Manor about 4.4 miles north, the area around Green Street has a long history. Older roofs nearby often mix original materials with later repairs, and the survey shows where each one is. The streets around a church such as The Parish Church of St George are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.
