Roof survey in Haslingbourne: what you get
The report is written for you, in plain language. Every issue comes with photos and a written recommendation, and where it is relevant we say what’s urgent and what can wait. With the Standard Survey you also get moisture detection and a structural check. Premium adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where applicable and a same-day report. Reports are sent by email. We are often asked to look into cracked mortar along the ridge and water stains on rafters and ceiling joists, across flat roofs, the roof space and chimney stacks.
Older buildings in small places like Haslingbourne may be listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is frequently expected.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

For landlords and managing agents
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends, which can make access easier.
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, with the report sent to whoever needs it. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.

FAQs for Haslingbourne
Do you cover smaller places like Haslingbourne?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Pulborough station?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. Just phone 07833 053749 or email us with the details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
What’s the best way to book?
It’s easiest to ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Give us the address and some details about the roof. We survey on any day of the week.
Does someone need to be in?
Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
When will the report arrive?
The Premium Survey has a same-day report, Standard 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Photos are included.
Is a roof survey the same as a structural survey?
No. We report on the roof’s condition, and the Standard and Premium packages include a structural check. It doesn’t include structural calculations, which need an engineer.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Light rain doesn’t normally stop a survey, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather isn’t suitable.
Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Haslingbourne
With Petworth House about 1.1 miles north-west, Haslingbourne sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings. Whatever the covering, it’s often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St Bartholomew, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. For landlords with property near Pulborough station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints.

The survey, step by step
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes between one and two hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Cottages and farmhouses around Haslingbourne frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- You pick the package that suits your roof.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.

Tips from our surveys
Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:
- Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
- Gather any paperwork for past roof work
- Clear the loft hatch area before we arrive
- Look for debris in the garden after high winds
Standard includes a follow-up consultation to talk the findings through, and the Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation. You can ask us about anything that isn’t clear.
Don’t block the vents at the eaves. A stuffy loft collects condensation, which can dampen timbers and insulation over time. Make sure insulation does not block the airflow at the eaves.
Can I check my roof myself?
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Do you need a roof survey in Haslingbourne?
The underlay under the coverings matters too. Breathable roofing membranes came into use in the UK in the late 1990s, so older roofs often have bitumen felt, and very old ones may have none. Torn or sagging felt lets water through.
Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:
- Ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs
- Blocked, sagging or leaking gutters
- Slates or tiles that have slipped or broken
- Condensation or damp timbers in the loft
Anyone responsible for a site like Petworth Cof E Primary School will know that a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.
Questions to ask before booking
- How long the report takes to arrive
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- Their track record with similar roofs
- Which limits apply to the survey
When you need someone else
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- The condition of the rest of the building (that is a RICS home survey)
- Asbestos testing of any kind
- How the roof will behave in every kind of weather
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.
