Roof Survey in Nackington
Roof surveys in Nackington and the rest of Kent. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
- Lifted, split or missing lead flashings
- Crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
Do you need a roof survey in Nackington?
Every roof takes years of rain, wind, sun and frost. Strong gusts work at anything that is not firmly fixed, and rain finds any gap it can. What starts as one slipped slate can become a leak.
Things that frequently lead to a survey include:
- Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
- Cracked or blistered flat roof coverings
- Loose ridge or hip tiles
- Blocked, sagging or leaking gutters
Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.
Questions to ask before booking
- What the report includes, and whether it has photos
- How long the report takes to arrive
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
Roof survey in Nackington
Three packages cover most roofs: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT. Basic is a visual inspection with photos and written recommendations. Standard and Premium go further, with moisture detection and a structural check, and on Premium, thermal imaging and a drone where it applies. Every package includes a written report. We are frequently asked to look into worn or blocked valleys and worn lead at chimneys and abutments, across the roof space, chimney stacks and ridges, hips and valleys.
Older buildings in small places like Nackington may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. Knowing the roof’s condition helps you plan ahead with that in mind. Older materials such as clay tiles, slate and stone are often matched when work is done.
The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Photographs show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

DIY checks: what’s safe
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Questions from Nackington
Is Nackington within the area you cover?
Yes, Nackington is covered. Our area covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Nackington?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Do I need to be at home?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access; we will agree the details when you book.
Can you survey a roof I share with a neighbour?
Yes, we inspect your part of the roof. We can only look at neighbouring roofs as far as access allows. Shared chimneys and party-wall upstands are looked at from your side.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
Do you go up on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. Much of the survey is done from ground level, upper windows and the roof space. On Premium, a drone is used where it applies.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
What a roof survey looks like in Nackington
If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Landlords with a home close to Canterbury East station may find that knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints. Shop and office owners around Whitefriars Shopping Centre may find that a roof report helps plan work around trading rather than after a leak.

Concrete interlocking tiles
On low-pitched roofs, the laps and fixings of interlocking tiles matter. Lifted or cracked tiles are noted, particularly at the verges and ridge.
Natural slate
Slate is common on older homes in London and South East England. Widespread slipping usually points to corroded nails, which we describe in the report.
Why act early in Nackington
It is easier to plan roof work than to react to it. A survey lets you deal with things in order of urgency, rather than waiting for something to fail. For older village homes like those around Nackington, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Prices start from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

How the survey works
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. Most visits take about one to two hours for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Older roofs in small places like Nackington can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start with the property details and any concerns.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We look at the roof from every safe vantage point outside.
- Inside, we check the loft space where there is safe access.
- We email a report with photographs and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
