How a roof survey works in Parsons Green
There are three levels of survey: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT. Basic is a visual inspection with photos and written recommendations. Standard and Premium go further, with moisture detection and a structural check, and on Premium, thermal imaging and a drone where applicable. Each one comes with a written report. We survey clay and concrete tiles, chimney stacks and natural slate, and common reasons people get in touch are standing water on a flat roof and ridge tiles that have lifted or moved.
London has Victorian and Edwardian terraces in almost every borough, many with Welsh slate roofs, shared chimney stacks and parapet or valley gutters. Good slates can last over a hundred years, yet the nails frequently give out first and let slates slip. Homes in Parsons Green are no exception. Lead flashings and shared chimney stacks on these houses need a proper look too.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What we can’t see
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
- The condition of the rest of the building (that’s a RICS home survey)
- A structural engineer’s report
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.

Why it is worth a survey now in Parsons Green
Before you put a home on the market, it is useful to know the roof’s condition. You’ll know what a buyer’s survey might pick up. Many older London roofs have only old felt under the slates, or no underlay at all, so a slipped slate can soon mean water inside. Left unchecked, water soaks into timber and plaster and the damage spreads.
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

The survey, step by step
The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Notes and photos go into the written report. The visit normally takes an hour or two for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so the back of the roof is often seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents when you book.
- We start by hearing what you’d like checked and why.
- A visit is booked for a weekday or a weekend.
- We look at the roof from each safe vantage point, inside and out.
- We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, and photograph what we find.
- Your report arrives by email, with recommendations prioritised by urgency.
How to prepare
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Let us know about parking near the property

Advice
Signs you need a roof survey in Parsons Green
Blocked gutters cause a surprising amount of damage. Leaves, moss and silt build up, the gutter overflows and water soaks the walls. Valley and parapet gutters can overflow inside the building.
Things that often lead to a survey include:
- Blocked, sagging or leaking gutters
- Ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs
- Worn or blocked valleys
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
Shop and office owners around Putney Exchange may find that a written record of the roof’s condition helps you plan maintenance rather than react to leaks.

Roof surveys in Parsons Green: local notes
Parsons Green is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. If the drone is used for your survey, permission from the heliport is needed first, and the flight only goes ahead if it is given. With Fulham Palace about 0.8 miles west, Parsons Green sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
If you own a rental within reach of Imperial Wharf station, a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak. Take a building like Lady Margaret School: large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.

FAQs for Parsons Green
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Parsons Green?
Typically it’s manageable with a little notice. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we’ll work around them.
Is drone flying allowed in Parsons Green?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Parsons Green is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. Before any flight there, we ask the heliport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s given. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
Is your survey a structural engineer’s report?
No. We report on the roof’s condition, and Standard and Premium include structural checks. It isn’t a structural engineer’s report and does not include calculations.
Can you inspect a terraced or semi-detached roof?
Yes, we can. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.
How quickly will I get the report?
The Premium Survey has a same-day report, Standard 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Each report includes photographs.
What if it rains on the day?
Light rain is typically fine; heavy rain and wind are different. In strong wind or heavy rain, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, and we’d agree another day.
