Roof survey in SW6: how it works

We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows, from the roof space and from the roof where conditions allow. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging and, where applicable, a drone, for roofs that are hard to see well. All we need from you is access to the property and the loft. Everything we see is photographed for the report. We survey chimney stacks, clay and concrete tiles and lead flashings, and people most often book us about cracked or blistered flat roof coverings and loose chimney pots.

Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time.

  1. You pick the package that suits your roof.
  2. We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
  3. We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
  4. Extra checks are carried out where your package includes them.
  5. You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

What you will pay

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £150, including VAT.

Around Fulham

Typical jobs here are in homes near St. Peter's Church, Polish Library POSK in London and St Johns Walham Green Church of England Primary School. Nearby too are Parsons Green (park) (0.5 miles south-east), Fulham Cross Girls' School and Language College (less than half a mile north-west), Queensmill School (0.7 miles south-east) and The Cock pub (less than half a mile north-east). The closest station to Fulham is West Brompton station, about 0.8 miles north-east. Nearby you’ll also find Chelsea Stadium Tour And Museum (0.8 miles east) and Putney Exchange (1.1 miles south). For a walk, there’s Battersea Park Lake and Campden Hill.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters across SW6

In SW6, our roof surveys work takes in owners, landlords and managing agents, in Fulham, Parsons Green and Walham Green and well beyond. Each report sets out what was seen, with photographs and recommendations.

We survey roofs across London and South East England, and SW6 is part of that. London and the South East have homes from every era, from period terraces to post-war new towns and new estates.

Fulham: For an older house near a landmark such as St. Peter's Church, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Putney Exchange, a roof report helps plan work around trading rather than after a leak.

How we price roof surveys

Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • How big the roof is

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Getting in touch

The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, it helps to mention:

  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one

Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can call 07833 053749 or send us an email to find out.

What we’re asked to look at in SW6

The underlay under the coverings matters too. Breathable roofing membranes came into use in the UK in the late 1990s, so older roofs often have bitumen felt, and very old ones may have none. Felt that has torn or perished stops doing its job.

Things that frequently lead to a survey include:

  • Leaking gutter joints and downpipes
  • Ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs
  • Flashings that have come away from the wall
  • Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles

Landlords, agents and block managers in SW6

We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners. A report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof.

If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the addresses.

When you need someone else

To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:

  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
  • Asbestos testing of any kind

What you can safely check yourself

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

FAQs for SW6

Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?

No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on older buildings, we flag them and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

How experienced are you?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.

Can you look at a roof that is joined to next door?

Yes. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. If a problem seems to come from next door, we will say so.

How much does a roof survey cost in SW6?

Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. You’ll know the price for the job before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. To get a price, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.

Will you climb onto the roof?

Where it is safe, yes. Much of the survey is done from ground level, upper windows and the roof space. The Premium Survey adds a drone where applicable.
