About our roof survey in St Denys
We survey roofs in St Denys and across London and South East England. Visits run on weekdays and at weekends. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Each survey ends with a written report, emailed with photos and recommendations. Whether it’s a house, a flat or a commercial building, the process is the same. To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We survey chimney stacks, natural slate and lead flashings, and common reasons people get in touch are condensation or damp timbers in the loft and cracked or blistered flat roof coverings.
Houses in smaller places like St Denys can face open ground, where wind and driving rain hit the roof harder. That weather tells first on ridges, verges, chimneys and flashings. Checking those edges shows whether anything has begun to work loose. Once one ridge tile or slate moves, wind gets under the next one too.
The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Do you need a roof survey in St Denys?
A blocked gutter does more harm than it looks. Leaves, moss and silt build up, the gutter overflows and water soaks the walls. Valley and parapet gutters can overflow inside the building, especially near trees.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Torn or sagging underlay
- Worn or blocked valleys
- Gutters that overflow in heavy rain
- Worn lead at chimneys and abutments
Homes near green spaces such as Riverside Park can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn.
What to check before booking
- What follow-up you get after the report
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- When you’ll get the report
- What the report includes, and whether it has photos
What happens on the day
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. For a survey in St Denys, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.
- You pick the package that suits your roof.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming

Questions from St Denys
Will you come out to St Denys?
Yes, St Denys is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in St Denys?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Can you look at a roof that’s joined to next door?
Yes, we inspect your part of the roof. Next door’s roof is only inspected as far as we can see it. Shared stacks and upstands are looked at from your property.
What’s the best way to book?
It’s easiest to phone 07833 053749 or email us. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we will take it from there. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.
How many surveys have you done?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
Does a roof survey replace a structural engineer?
No. If we see signs that need an engineer, such as serious sagging, we’ll say so. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report.
Do you inspect the roof from on top?
Where it’s safe, yes. We also inspect from ground level, from windows and vantage points, and from the loft. The Premium Survey adds a drone where it applies.
Checking the roof from the ground
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
What a roof survey doesn’t cover
It is useful to know what a survey won’t do before booking:
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- A full building survey of the property
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in St Denys
St Denys lies within about 3 miles of the sea, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Salt corrodes metal fixings and flashings, and wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces, while driving rain finds any gap. Historic houses such as South Stoneham House, about 1 mile north-east, show how far back building in the area around St Denys goes. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Anyone responsible for a site like St Denys Primary School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. Shop and office owners around Marlands Shopping Centre may find that a roof report helps plan work around trading rather than after a leak.

Tips from our surveys
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Include dormers, porches and garages when booking
- Find records of any re-roofing or repairs
- Check we can open the loft hatch
- Leave roof access to professionals
With the Standard Survey you get a follow-up consultation, while Premium includes a consultation in person. You can ask us about anything that isn’t clear.
After a storm, check the roof from the garden and the street. Fragments of slate or tile on the ground mean something has shifted. Getting small faults fixed quickly keeps water out.
