Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Alverstone

Our storm damage report starts from £150. It’s a written report with photos, sent by email. It isn’t a repair quote and does not include repair costs, so you will need a roofer’s quote for that. Your insurer may also send its own loss adjuster. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause. We are frequently asked to look into ridge tiles that have come loose and flat roof edges peeled back, on flat roofs, slate and tile slopes and ridges and hips.

Being in a small place like Alverstone makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. It is useful to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photos of the water coming in, they help as well.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Alverstone

Alverstone is within about 2 miles of the coast. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording, and many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, though it varies. With Haseley Manor about 1.8 miles west, Alverstone sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

If you own a rental within reach of Sandown station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. Take an older house close to All Saints' Church: water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Newchurch Primary School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.

Alverstone is about 4 miles south of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. If you are in Alverstone, booking works exactly as it does anywhere else: get in touch, agree the price and pick a day. Our area takes in places right across the Isle of Wight. There is also a page for Portsmouth.

What we can’t see

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • The outcome of a claim
  • Repair costs or quotes for the work
  • What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.

Practical tips

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:

  • Ask a roofer for emergency temporary protection if water is coming in
  • Keep a note of the date of the storm
  • File receipts for anything you pay for
  • Photograph the damage safely from below

The insurer might appoint a loss adjuster. Our report gives you an independent record alongside theirs.

Keep records of roof work and surveys. They help show the roof was in good order before a storm.

FAQs for Alverstone

Does being near the coast affect roofs in Alverstone?

Places near the sea get more wind and more salt in the air than inland, and both are hard on roofs. Salt corrodes metal fixings and flashings, and wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces.

Is Alverstone within the area you cover?

Yes, Alverstone is covered. Our area covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Surveys run on any day of the week. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

How long does the survey take?

It usually takes an hour or two on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. The report follows by email.

Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?

That is not something we can promise. The decision rests with your insurer and its policy. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only if it is safe. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

Do you act for me with my insurer?

No. Our report is an independent record for you to use. The insurer may send a loss adjuster of its own.

Roof by roof

Clay and concrete tiles

A missing tile lets rain reach the underlay. We photograph each gap.

Flat roof coverings

Edge trims and laps are frequently where flat roof coverings start to peel back. We check whether the damage is recent or older.

Why get it checked now?

A clear, independent record helps you explain the damage to your insurer. It records the damage and what seems to have caused it, alongside any photos you took yourself. In a small place like Alverstone, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

How the survey works

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Rural addresses near Alverstone can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
  2. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the roof space where it’s safe.
  3. The damage is recorded with photos, area by area.
  4. We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
  5. You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.

Before the survey

  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed

How to book

Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Checking the roof from ground level

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
