How we price storm damage roof reports

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • The shape of the roof and its details

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

What to let us know when you get in touch

You do not need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to let us know:

  • Your timetable, like an exchange date
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • The kind of building and roof involved

Storm damage roof report in Atherfield Green

Our storm damage report starts from £150. It is a written report with photographs, sent by email. It doesn’t price the repairs, so ask a roofer to quote for the work. The insurer may still send a loss adjuster of its own. What you get is an independent record of the damage and what seems to have caused it. Typical surveys look at loose or torn flashings and lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles, across flashings, chimney stacks and gutters and fascias.

Somewhere as small as Atherfield Green, older roofs have often been repaired many times. That makes it hard to tell new damage from old wear, and the difference matters, especially to an insurer. We check what can safely be seen and set out what we find. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it is worth finding the cause soon.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It is useful right away, and a good reference for later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

Honest limits

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Areas we cannot see safely
  • Whether your insurer will pay the claim
  • Your insurer’s view of the claim

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Ridges and hips
  • Flashings
  • Flat roofs
  • Slate and tile slopes

The survey, step by step

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photos, sent to you by email. On timing, most surveys take between one and two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Somewhere as small as Atherfield Green, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We start with the details: when the storm hit and what damage you can see.
  2. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the loft space where it’s safe.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
  5. You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Advice

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Atherfield Green

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Atherfield Green?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Will you come out to Atherfield Green?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?

The decision is your insurer’s, not ours. We record the damage, with photographs and the likely cause, which you can pass to your insurer.

How much is a storm damage roof report?

Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Larger or more complex roofs are quoted for their size. Repair costs aren’t included, so ask a roofer to quote.

What do I do if water is coming in?

Call a roofer for emergency temporary protection. Take photos from ground level first if it’s safe. Keep receipts for any emergency work.

Are you loss adjusters?

No. Our report is an independent record for you to use. Your insurer may appoint its own loss adjuster.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.

Can I check my roof myself?

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That’s where a survey comes in.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Atherfield Green

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

Tips that help

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
  • File receipts for anything you pay for
  • Do not go onto the roof to take pictures
  • Read your policy wording on storm damage

For repair costs, ask a roofer to quote. They can use our report to see what needs doing.

Keep gutters and outlets clear so heavy rain can drain away. Blocked drainage can add water damage to wind damage.
