Storm damage roof report in Beenham Stocks: what you get
Our storm damage report starts from £150. It’s a written report with photos, sent by email. It isn’t a repair quote and does not include repair costs, so you’ll need a roofer’s quote for that. The insurer may still send a loss adjuster of its own. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause. Typical surveys look at cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind and flat roof edges peeled back, across slate and tile slopes, gutters and fascias and ridges and hips.
For a small place like Beenham Stocks, the inspection is the same as anywhere: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
After the visit, you get a photo-illustrated written report, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Before and after the survey
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:
- Keep invoices for temporary repairs
- Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
- Photograph damage inside the house too
- Check how your policy defines a storm
Once we have been, the findings are written up with photos. It covers the damage, its likely cause and any older defects. Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24 to 48 hours and Premium reports the same day.
Have overhanging branches looked at by a tree surgeon. They can damage the roof in high winds.
Common questions in Beenham Stocks
Will you come out to Beenham Stocks?
Yes, Beenham Stocks is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
How do I find out if my home in Beenham Stocks is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
Do you act for me with my insurer?
No. We write an independent report, and you decide how to use it. Your insurer may appoint its own loss adjuster.
How should I record storm damage myself?
Safely, from ground level or a window. Don’t use a ladder or go onto the roof. With binoculars, you can see a lot from the ground and we will inspect the rest from safe positions.
How long is the visit?
Time on site depends on the roof, but most surveys take between one and two hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Leaks and storm damage in Beenham Stocks
England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.
Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself. If you let a flat or house near Aldermaston station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. Anyone responsible for a site like Beenham Primary School will know that a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside.

What we do, step by step
We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Somewhere as small as Beenham Stocks, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
