Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Bells Yew Green
Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. It sets out what is damaged, with photographs, and what we think the likely cause is. It is yours to pass to your insurer. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We are not loss adjusters, and we cannot tell you whether a claim will succeed. We’re often asked to look into gaps where slates or tiles have gone and broken or displaced guttering, on gutters and fascias, flashings and chimney stacks.
Many homes in small places like Bells Yew Green face open ground, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.
We write the report in plain English, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

When to book a survey in Bells Yew Green
When you claim, your insurer may ask for evidence of the damage and its cause. A written report with photos gives you something clear to pass on. The decision still rests with the insurer.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Holes or cracks caused by debris
- Loose or broken chimney pots and cowls
- Stains appearing after strong winds
- Gutters pulled loose in the wind
If you let a flat or house near Frant station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.
What to check before booking
- Will the report include photos?
- What follow-up you get after the report
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see

FAQs for Bells Yew Green
Is Bells Yew Green within the area you cover?
Yes, Bells Yew Green is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Is Bells Yew Green in the area you cover?
Yes, Bells Yew Green is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Are you loss adjusters?
No. We are not loss adjusters and don’t act for you with the insurer. We give you an independent report of the damage for you to send to your insurer.
What wind speed counts as a storm?
It varies by policy. Many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but your policy sets the actual test.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?
That is not something we can promise. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause.
When you need someone else
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- Acting for you with the insurer
- A decision on your insurance claim
- Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will suggest the right survey. The full list of what we check.

How the survey changes by roof type
Slate roofs
After strong winds, we often see cracked and slipped slates. Each area is photographed and described.
Chimney stacks
Wind can pull the flashings away from a chimney. We photograph any we find.
The survey, step by step
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes between one and two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Bells Yew Green frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
- We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- The report, with photos, is emailed to you.
Getting ready for the survey
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

DIY checks: what’s safe
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book.
Storm damage roof reports in Bells Yew Green: local notes
Across Kent, older roofs are often handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts. About 3 miles south-east lies Wadhurst Castle, a reminder of how long the area around Bells Yew Green has been built on. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Shop and office owners around The Corn Exchange may find that finding where water is getting in quickly keeps disruption down.

Why get it checked now?
The sooner the damage is recorded, the clearer the evidence. Further storms and quick fixes can make the picture less clear. In a small place like Bells Yew Green, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
