Storm Damage Roof Report in Kent

Our storm damage roof report service in Kent

When a storm has damaged your roof, a written record can help you explain it to your insurer. Our report shows the damage in photos and says whether it looks like storm damage, wear and tear, or a mix. We are not loss adjusters, and we cannot say whether a claim will be paid. What you get is an independent view of the roof’s condition. We survey ridges and hips, flat roofs and gutters and fascias, and common reasons people get in touch are holes or cracks caused by debris and flashings pulled away from walls or stacks.

The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Notes and photographs go into the written report. It typically takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof.

  1. You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
  2. We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there’s access.
  3. We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
  4. We look at whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
  5. The findings are written up with photos for you to share with your insurer.

What you’ll pay

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

Near you in Maidstone

We work in homes and buildings around Paper Makers Arms, Maidstone Grammar School and St Philip's Church and the streets around them. You’ll also find River Len LNR (less than half a mile north-east), South Borough Primary School (within half a mile south) and St Augustine Academy (1.2 miles west). Maidstone’s nearest station is Maidstone West station, about 0.6 miles north-west of the centre. A little further out are Maidstone Carriage Museum (within half a mile north-west) and Oakwood Hospital (1.8 miles west). Green spaces nearby include Burham Down and Boxley Hills.

Roofs and weather across Kent

Across Kent, we check leaks and storm damage on homes and businesses, in Maidstone, Ashford and Canterbury and well beyond. You get a written record with photographs.

From inner London terraces to Kent oast houses, Sussex tile-hanging and Hampshire thatch, the South East has a huge mix of roofs. Kent is part of that mix. Along the coast in Kent, roofs facing the sea take the brunt of the weather, so ridges, verges and flashings there often need attention first.

Maidstone: If you live near a park such as River Len LNR, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall. Anyone responsible for a site like South Borough Primary School will know that water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Kent

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A clear, independent record helps you explain the damage to your insurer. It sets out what we found and the likely cause, alongside any photos you took yourself.

What to check before booking

  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance

Useful tips for Kent property owners

Small things make a difference. Our tips:

  • Take photos from the ground or a window, never by climbing
  • Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
  • Photograph damage inside the house too
  • Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed

The insurer might appoint a loss adjuster. Our report gives you an independent record alongside theirs.

Check the roof from the ground after strong winds. With binoculars, you can frequently spot problems without climbing. Never climb onto the roof yourself.

When you need someone else

Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • How your policy defines a storm
  • Repair costs or quotes for the work
  • Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up

What we are asked to look at in Kent

Strong winds lift loose or poorly fixed slates and tiles, ridge pieces and flashings. Driving rain then gets in through the gaps. People typically call us after a storm, once they’ve noticed damage or a leak.

We are frequently asked to look at:

  • Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
  • Damaged gutters and fascias
  • Slipped or missing slates or tiles
  • Holes or cracks caused by debris

Common questions in Kent

Should I go up on the roof to take photos?

Safely, from ground level or a window. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. With binoculars, you can see a lot from ground level and we will inspect the rest from safe positions.

How do I book a survey in Kent?

To book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.

How experienced are you?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

How long does the survey take?

It usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. We will confirm the timing as you book.

How much is a storm damage roof report?

A storm damage report starts from £150. Commercial and larger roofs are quoted on size. The report does not include repair costs.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We look at everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
