Independent storm damage roof reports in South Street

Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in South Street

After a storm, safety comes first. Take photos from ground level or from windows, and do not climb onto the roof. If water is coming in, a roofer can put temporary protection in place. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Keep receipts for any emergency work. We survey gutters and fascias, flat roofs and slate and tile slopes, and people most frequently book us about slipped or missing slates or tiles and loose or broken chimney pots and cowls.

Many homes in small places like South Street face open ground, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Damp in old stone, brick or timber walls is slow to dry out, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.

After the visit, you get a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Do you need a storm damage roof report in South Street?

A storm often finds a roof’s existing weak spots. Corroded nails on slate roofs, worn mortar on ridges and old flashings can all give way. We record recent damage alongside older defects.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Damaged gutters and fascias
  • Slates and tiles blown off the roof
  • Flat roof edges peeled back
  • New damp or leaks inside

Take an older house close to Church of St Peter and St Paul: leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • How soon the report will arrive
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • Whether you get a written report with photos
  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof

What a roof survey includes

How we price storm damage roof reports

Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Which survey package you book
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £150, including VAT.

What we need to know

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them

Booking is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email, tell us about the property and we’ll explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.

How the survey changes by roof type

Flat roof coverings

Lifted trims and laps are common after a storm. We check whether the damage is recent or older.

Chimney stacks

High winds can loosen pots, cowls and aerials on stacks. We record any damage we can see.

Why it is worth a survey now in South Street

If the damage is partly wear and tear, it is better to know. Our report gives an honest view of both, so you know what the roof shows. In a place like South Street, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Why book with us

  • Visits on any day of the week
  • Thermal imaging and drone inspection where they help
  • More than 5,000 surveys completed
  • Customer satisfaction of 98%

How the survey works

The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It typically takes between one and two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. In a hamlet or village like South Street, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
  2. We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there’s access.
  3. We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
  4. We check whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
  5. We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.

How to prepare

  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Advice

Wind, rain and roofs in South Street

South Street lies within about 5 miles of the sea, so storms can arrive with strong gusts off the water. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording, and many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, though it varies. About 4.4 miles west lies Belmont House and Gardens, a reminder of how long the area around South Street has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

If you own a rental within reach of Selling station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. Homes near green spaces such as Mount Ephraim Gardens can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn.

South Street is about 3 miles south-east of Preston, in Kent. We survey roofs in South Street and the surrounding area as part of our work across London and the South East. Across Kent, we cover South Street and the places around it. Our Canterbury page covers surveys nearby.

What’s near South Street

Typical jobs here are in homes near Mount Ephraim Gardens and The Sondes Arms and the streets around them. There’s a railway station in South Street itself: Selling station. Well-known places in the area include Eastbridge Hospital of St Thomas the Martyr (5.7 miles east) and Tower keep castle at Chilham (2.8 miles south). For a walk, there’s Blean Woods RSPB Reserve.

Tips from our surveys

You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
  • Check how your policy defines a storm
  • Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
  • Hold on to fallen pieces of the roof where you can

You get the report by email and pass it to your insurer yourself. We do not deal with the insurer on your behalf.

Keep the roof in good order between storms. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.

FAQs for South Street

Will you come out to South Street?

Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.

Is my home in South Street listed or in a conservation area?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we will agree the details as you book.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Will my insurer pay for an old roof?

Wear and tear is not typically covered. We describe what looks like fresh storm damage and what looks older. Your insurer decides the claim.

How should I record storm damage myself?

Stay off the roof. Take photos from the ground or from windows. Record the date and any damage inside as well.
