Storm damage roof report in Grove: what you get
If your roof has been damaged, stay safe first. Photograph the damage from the ground or a window, and never climb up. If water is coming in, a roofer can put temporary protection in place. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. If you’ve noticed gaps where slates or tiles have gone and new damp or leaks inside, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
In a village or hamlet like Grove, older cottages and farmhouses often have roofs that have been patched over many years. That makes it hard to tell new damage from old wear, and the difference matters, particularly to an insurer. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Tips from our surveys
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:
- Note the date and time you first saw the damage
- Check how your policy defines a storm
- Take photos of stains and damp inside
- Keep receipts for any emergency work
If anything in the report is not clear, just ask us. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.
Keep gutters and outlets clear so heavy rain can drain away. Overflowing gutters can make storm damage worse.
What else we do in Grove
Leaks and storm damage in Grove
The coast is about 5 miles or less from Grove, so storms can arrive with strong gusts off the water. What counts as a storm is set by each policy, often gusts of around 55 mph, and the insurer makes the decision. Many older homes in Kent have handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles held by pegs through two holes, and tile-hanging on their upper walls. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in.
Take a building like Preston Primary School: water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mildred, leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.

How the survey works
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes between one and two hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Cottages and farmhouses around Grove often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
- The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows and from the loft space where it’s safe.
- The damage is recorded with photographs, area by area.
- We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
- The findings are written up with photographs for you to share with your insurer.
Preparing for the visit
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Find any records of previous roof work

How to book

Grove: your questions answered
How do I find out if my home in Grove is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Will you come out to Grove?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.
How are storm damage reports priced?
Our reports start from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. Repair costs aren’t part of the report.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you as you book.
Can I check the roof after a storm?
Please don’t climb onto the roof. Take photos from ground level or from windows. Record the date and any damage inside as well.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
What you can safely check yourself
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
What a survey costs
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. This is what makes a difference:
- The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- How big the roof is
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, with VAT included, and we’ll tell you which fits.

Leave it or get it looked at?
Knowing whether older wear played a part helps you understand your position. We record storm damage and older defects, so there are no surprises later. Outbuildings and barns around Grove are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Grove
Roofs that were already worn are more likely to suffer in a storm. Corroded nails on slate roofs, worn mortar on ridges and old flashings can all give way. Our report notes both the storm damage and any older wear.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Slates and tiles blown off the roof
- Damage from fallen branches or debris
- Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
- Lead lifted at abutments
With Goodnestone Park about 4.7 miles south, the area around Grove has a long history. Leaks in period homes nearby often come from lead work and valleys that have been patched before.
