About roof surveys in DA8
Our report is written in plain English, not jargon. Every issue comes with photos and a written recommendation, and we rank them by urgency where that helps. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, a drone where it applies and a same-day report. Each report is emailed to you. Common reasons to book are ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs and leaking gutter joints and downpipes, on clay and concrete tiles, ridges, hips and valleys and lead flashings.
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. If you have questions on the day, just ask.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
Prices in DA8

Near you in Erith
Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to The Cross Keys pub, Wildspace Conservation Park and Erith School and the streets around them. Nearby too are Christ Church (less than half a mile east), Trinity School (0.6 miles north-west) and Christ Church (Erith) CofE Primary School (within half a mile south). Erith has its own railway station: Erith station. Well-known places in the area include Erith Museum (under half a mile east) and Erith and District Hospital (less than half a mile south-west). Green spaces nearby include Crossness Nature Reserve.
Roof surveys across DA8: local notes
Owners across DA8, from Erith, Belvedere and Northumberland Heath to the villages, book us to find out where their roof stands. A report helps you sort small faults before they let water in.
Our area takes in slate-roofed London terraces, clay-tiled Weald houses, Essex weatherboarding and post-war new towns. Roofs in DA8 are part of that picture.
Erith: If you let a flat or house near Erith station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints. Anyone responsible for a site like Christ Church (Erith) CofE Primary School will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.
Why get it checked now?
It’s easier to plan roof work than to react to it. A survey lets you deal with things in order of urgency, rather than waiting for something to fail.
What to check before booking
- How long the report takes to arrive
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Landlords and agents in DA8 book surveys as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work around your tenants.
Roof by roof
Natural slate
Natural slate can last 100 years or more, but its nails frequently corrode first. Slipped, cracked and missing slates are all noted.
Chimney stacks
Our chimney check is a visual inspection of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If a specialist is needed, we will say so.
DIY checks: what’s safe
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
How we price roof surveys
Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- Roof area
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Booking your survey
There is no need for technical words. Just tell us:
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
- The kind of building and roof involved
When you’re ready to go ahead, call 07833 053749 or email us. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day, weekday or weekend.
DA8 questions
What does a roof survey cost?
Prices start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, and it’s agreed before booking.
How long does the visit take?
It normally takes an hour or two for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. The report follows within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.
When will the report arrive?
The Premium Survey has a same-day report, Standard 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Photos are included.
Do you carry out asbestos surveys?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on older buildings, we flag them and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so whoever owns or manages the building needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access.
