How it works
When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. In a small place like Waldershare, access is typically the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- We record fresh damage and older defects.
- The report, with photos, is emailed to you.
Before we arrive
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
How to book
Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to call 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.
Advice
Storm damage roof report in Waldershare
Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. It sets out what is damaged, with photographs, and what we think the likely cause is. You can then give it to your insurer with your claim. The decision on any claim rests with your insurer and its policy wording. We are not loss adjusters and cannot say whether a claim will be paid. If you’re worried about torn or lifted flat roof coverings and roofs hit by falling trees, we can find out what’s behind it.
For a small place like Waldershare, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned ahead of time. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, plus any earlier repairs. If you have photos of the water coming in, they help as well.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Honest limits
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- Your insurer’s view of the claim
- A decision on your insurance claim
- Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up

Waldershare questions
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Waldershare?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Do you cover smaller places like Waldershare?
Yes. Waldershare is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
How much is a storm damage roof report?
Prices start from £150, including VAT. Bigger roofs are quoted on size and access. It doesn’t include repair costs, so you will need a roofer’s quote for those.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
Does someone need to be in?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when you book.
How strong does the wind have to be for a storm claim?
There’s no single figure. Many use gusts of about 55 mph, but each policy sets its own definition. Your policy document will say.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
Before and after the survey
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Check your policy for how to report damage
- Look at what your policy says about wear and tear
- Do not go onto the roof to take pictures
- Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed
You’ll need a roofer’s quote for the repairs. The report gives them a clear list of the damage.
Have overhanging branches looked at by a tree surgeon. Branches can hit or scrape the roof in a storm.
Different roofs, different checks
Slate roofs
Slates often outlast the nails that hold them. We look at whether slipped slates suggest storm damage, older wear or both.
Ridge and hip tiles
Water can get in where ridge tiles have moved. Each one is recorded with photos.
What a storm damage roof report looks like in Waldershare
With Goodnestone Park about 4 miles north, Waldershare sits in an area with a long building history. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Many older homes in Kent have handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles held by pegs through two holes, and tile-hanging on their upper walls. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed.
Take a building like Eythorne Elvington Community Primary School: on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. If you own a rental within reach of Shepherds Well station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. The streets around a church like Church of St Pancras are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

What a survey costs
When we price a survey, we consider:
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- How big the roof is
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
Every price we give includes VAT. Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.
Getting in touch
We will usually ask about:
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or email us when you’re ready.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Leaving storm damage can let water into the loft space and rooms below. That can add to the damage and make it harder to separate from the storm. Emergency temporary protection should be arranged with a roofer. In a place like Waldershare, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
