About our storm damage roof report in Upchurch
Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. It is yours to pass to your insurer. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We aren’t loss adjusters and cannot say whether a claim will be paid. If you’ve noticed stains appearing after strong winds and flat roof edges peeled back, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Being in a small place like Upchurch makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. It is useful to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, along with any repairs done before. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put in order of urgency where relevant.

Questions from Upchurch
How do I find out if my home in Upchurch is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Do you cover smaller places like Upchurch?
Yes, Upchurch is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.
What do I do if water is coming in?
Emergency cover over a damaged roof should be arranged with a roofer. If it is safe, photograph the damage before it is covered. Keep receipts for any emergency work.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?
Only your insurer can decide that. Our report records what is damaged, with photos, and the likely cause, for you to give to your insurer.

Checking the roof from the ground
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.
How the survey changes by roof type
Lead flashings
Wind can peel back flashings at abutments and stacks. Loose or damaged flashings are photographed and noted.
Chimney stacks
Stacks with existing defects tend to suffer more in storms. We record both the storm damage and the older wear.
When you need someone else
No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
- A decision on your insurance claim
- The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. What a survey covers and does not.

For landlords and managing agents
We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos, useful for planning maintenance.
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out with the most urgent first where relevant.
Wind, rain and roofs in Upchurch
The coast is about 2 miles or less from Upchurch, so storms can arrive with strong gusts off the water. Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies, and the insurer decides the claim. Across Kent, older roofs are often handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary the Virgin, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. Anyone responsible for a site like Holywell Primary School will know that a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside. Trees in and around Berengrave Chalk Pit shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters.
Upchurch is about 3 miles east of Gillingham, in Kent. Upchurch gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a proper look at whatever is safely visible, photos and a clear written report. Upchurch is one of the towns and villages in Kent where we work. There is also a page for Maidstone.
Storm damage roof reports in ME9 and ME8 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Local streets include The Street, Crosier Court and Horsham Lane. Neighbouring places we cover for storm damage roof reports include Lower Halstow (1 mile east), Breach (1 mile south), Moor Street (1 mile south-west), Lower Rainham (1 mile west) and Newington (2 miles south-east). Landmarks near Upchurch
Around Upchurch, our work takes us to homes and buildings near Leigh Academy Rainham and Berengrave Chalk Pit and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Rainham (Kent) station, roughly 1.6 miles south-west of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Medway Maritime Hospital (4.5 miles west) and Bayford Court (4.8 miles south-east). Green spaces nearby include Bishop Saltings.
What happens if roof problems are left?
If a roofer needs to make the roof safe, take photos first if you can do so safely from ground level. That keeps a record of how it looked. In a place like Upchurch, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What we do, step by step
We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. In a small place like Upchurch, access is normally the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- We look at the roof from wherever it is safe.
- Each area of damage is photographed and described.
- We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
- You get a written report to pass to your insurer.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
