Storm damage roof report in Chislet
Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. It sets out what is damaged, with photographs, and what we think the likely cause is. It is yours to pass to your insurer. The decision on any claim rests with your insurer and its policy wording. We are not loss adjusters, and we cannot tell you whether a claim will succeed. Typical surveys look at broken or displaced guttering and slipped or missing slates or tiles, on chimney stacks, slate and tile slopes and flat roofs.
Somewhere as small as Chislet, older roofs have often been repaired many times. That makes it hard to tell new damage from old wear, which matters if you are thinking of an insurance claim. We look at what can safely be seen and set out what we find. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it is worth finding the cause soon.
Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

Honest limits
To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:
- A price for the repairs
- What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
- Areas we cannot see safely
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.
What we look at
- Flat roofs
- Ridges and hips
- Chimney stacks
- Gutters and fascias
- Slate and tile slopes
- Flashings
Leave it or get it looked at?
It is useful to get a record soon after the storm, while the damage is fresh. Further storms and quick fixes can make the picture less clear. Older cottages and farmhouses around Chislet can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Storm damage roof reports in Chislet: local notes
Chislet lies within about 3 miles of the sea, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. In a coastal gale, rain is driven sideways into laps, verges and flashings. Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.
Trees in and around Grove Ferry Picnic Area shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. If you let a flat or house near Herne Bay station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over.
Chislet is about 3 miles south-east of Herne Bay, in Kent. Do you need a storm damage roof report in Chislet?
When you claim, your insurer may ask for evidence of the damage and its cause. A written report with photos gives you something clear to pass on. The decision still rests with the insurer.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles
- Holes or cracks caused by debris
- Cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind
- Flat roof edges peeled back
Take a building like Chislet Church of England Primary School: tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Chislet
How do I find out if my home in Chislet is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Will you come out to Chislet?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?
It varies by policy. About 55 mph is a common figure in many policies, but check your own wording.
What’s the best way to book?
To book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.
How long will you be at the property?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take between one and two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. The written report follows by email.
Will you deal with the insurance company for me?
No. We aren’t loss adjusters and do not act for you with the insurer. We give you an independent report of the damage for you to send to your insurer.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
What happens on the day
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It usually takes about one to two hours at a typical home, or half a day or so for a commercial building. For a village or hamlet like Chislet, the journey is planned ahead of time: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- You let us know when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
- The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the roof space where it’s safe.
- We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
- We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
- The findings are written up with photographs for you to share with your insurer.
Before the survey
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Note where any stains or damp appear
