Storm damage roof report in Hinxhill: what you get
Our storm damage report starts from £150. It is a written report with photographs, sent by email. It does not price the repairs, so you will need a roofer’s quote for that. The insurer may still send a loss adjuster of its own. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause. If you’ve noticed gaps where slates or tiles have gone and broken or displaced guttering, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on slate and tile slopes, ridges and hips and chimney stacks alike.
Somewhere as small as Hinxhill, older roofs have frequently been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, which matters if you are thinking of an insurance claim. We look at whatever is safely visible and set out what we find. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.
Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

Practical tips
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:
- Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
- Take photos of stains and damp inside
- Look at what your policy says about wear and tear
- Take photos from ground level or a window, never by climbing
After the visit, we write up the report with photographs of each area of damage. It covers the damage, its likely cause and any older defects. Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24 to 48 hours and Premium reports the same day.
Have overhanging branches looked at by a tree surgeon. They can damage the roof in high winds.
Hinxhill: your questions answered
Is Hinxhill in the area you cover?
Yes, Hinxhill is within the area we cover. Our area covers London and South East England. You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details.
Do you cover smaller places like Hinxhill?
Yes. Hinxhill is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Do you use drones?
Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.
Can I challenge a declined storm claim?
The first step is a complaint to your insurer. If you’re still unhappy, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Our report gives you an independent record of the roof, though we cannot predict the outcome.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
What does a storm damage report cost?
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Bigger roofs are quoted on size and access. It doesn’t include repair costs, so you’ll need a roofer’s quote for those.
How strong does the wind have to be for a storm claim?
It depends on your policy. Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies. Your policy document will say.
Roof by roof
Chimney stacks
Pots, cowls and aerials on chimneys can be damaged or dislodged in a storm. The report notes any damage to the stack.
Flat roof coverings
Edge trims and laps are often where flat roof coverings start to peel back. We look at whether the damage is recent or older.
The survey, step by step
Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and make notes for the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Cottages and farmhouses around Hinxhill often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
- Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- We record fresh damage and older defects.
- You receive the written report with photos.
Before the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
How to book
If you are buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email when you are ready.
Advice
What a survey costs
Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on:
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.
What we need to know
We will usually ask about:
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
We survey roofs seven days a week. To arrange a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and the days you’d prefer.
Do you need a storm damage roof report in Hinxhill?
Storms don’t only affect pitched roofs. Coverings can tear or peel back at the edges, and water can pond where outlets are blocked. Our report covers flat and pitched roofs.
Here are some of the things we see frequently:
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Holes or cracks caused by debris
- Ridge tiles that have come loose
- Damaged pots on the stack
Take a building like Brook Community Primary School: tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.
Before you book anyone
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
Hinxhill roofs and the weather
Across Kent, older roofs are frequently handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. With Godinton House about 4.3 miles west, Hinxhill sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
If you let a flat or house near Ashford International station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.
Hinxhill is about 3 miles east of Ashford, in Kent. From houses to flats and shops in Hinxhill, we can survey the roof. Across Kent, we cover Hinxhill and the places around it. Canterbury is in our area too.
Surveys in TN25 and TN24 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. That includes homes and businesses on Hinxhill Road and Goodcheap Lane and the roads around them. We also cover the places around Hinxhill: Hinxhill Park (1 mile south-west), Sevington (1 mile south-west), Brook (2 miles north-east), Mersham (2 miles south) and Ridgeway (2 miles south-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Ashford (3 miles west), Canterbury (11 miles north-east), Folkestone (11 miles east), Whitstable (15 miles north), Faversham (12 miles north) and Hythe (8 miles south-east).
Near you in Hinxhill
In Hinxhill, that means homes and buildings near The Blacksmith's Arms Public House, Conningbrook Lakes Country Park and The Norton Knatchbull School, among other places. Hinxhill’s nearest station is Ashford International station, about 2.4 miles west. A little further out are William Harvey Hospital (0.7 miles west) and Ashford Designer Outlet (2.4 miles west). The countryside around Hinxhill includes Hatch Park.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Once the storm has passed, damage that looked minor can let water in for months. Getting it recorded and repaired sooner is normally better. For older village homes like those around Hinxhill, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
