Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Goose Green

What counts as a storm depends on your policy, though many use gusts of about 55 mph. Your policy document sets out its own definition. Whether the weather met it is for your insurer. Our part is recording the damage to your roof and its likely cause. The report includes photographs of each area of damage, and you decide what to send. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We’re frequently asked to look into damaged pots on the stack and gutters pulled loose in the wind, on ridges and hips, gutters and fascias and flat roofs.

Somewhere as small as Goose Green, older roofs have frequently been repaired many times. That makes it hard to tell new damage from old wear, which matters if you’re thinking of an insurance claim. We check whatever is safely visible and set out what we find. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.

Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Goose Green

Do you cover Goose Green?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Is Goose Green within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

How experienced are you?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

What we do, step by step

We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take between one and two hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Somewhere as small as Goose Green, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We start with the details: when the storm hit and what damage you can see.
  2. We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there’s access.
  3. We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
  4. We check whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
  5. We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.

Preparing for the visit

  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear

Common roof problems in Goose Green

A storm frequently finds a roof’s existing weak spots. Corroded nails on slate roofs, worn mortar on ridges and old flashings can all give way. Our report notes both the storm damage and any older wear.

Things that often lead to a survey include:

  • Broken or displaced guttering
  • Slates and tiles blown off the roof
  • Flat roof edges peeled back
  • Lead lifted at abutments

The streets around a church such as Church of St Dunstan are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

What a good roof survey covers

Tips from our surveys

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Hold on to fallen pieces of the roof where you can
  • Read your policy wording on storm damage
  • Keep a note of the date of the storm
  • Keep receipts for any emergency work

The report is emailed to you, and you decide what to send to your insurer. It is your record to use.

Check the roof from the ground after strong winds. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or lifted ridges. Never climb onto the roof yourself.

Honest limits

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • Whether your insurer will pay the claim
  • Repair costs or quotes for the work
  • Your insurer’s view of the claim

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will recommend the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.

Different roofs, different checks

Chimney stacks

Pots, cowls and aerials on chimneys can be damaged or dislodged in a storm. We record any damage we can see.

Clay and concrete tiles

Broken or missing tiles leave the underlay exposed to rain. We photograph each gap.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Goose Green

Across Kent, older roofs are often handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts. With Old Soar Manor about 2.5 miles north-west, Goose Green sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

If you own a rental within reach of Yalding station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. If you look after a building such as Hadlow Primary School, a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside.
