Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Ram Lane
After a storm, safety comes first. Photograph the damage from the ground or a window, and never climb up. If water is coming in, a roofer can put temporary protection in place. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. Common reasons to book are lead lifted at abutments and roofs hit by falling trees, across flashings, chimney stacks and gutters and fascias.
Being in a small place like Ram Lane makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: the journey and access are just planned in advance. It’s useful to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, plus any earlier repairs. If you have photos of the water coming in, they help as well.
The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Ram Lane
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Ram Lane?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Ram Lane?
Yes, Ram Lane is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Ram Lane as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Does someone need to be in?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
Are you loss adjusters?
No. We aren’t loss adjusters and don’t act for you with the insurer. We provide an independent record of the roof for you to send to your insurer.
How experienced are you?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.
How much is a storm damage roof report?
A storm damage report starts from £150. Commercial and larger roofs are quoted on size. The report doesn’t include repair costs.
Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?
Only your insurer can decide that. We record the damage, with photographs and the likely cause, which you can pass to your insurer.
When you need someone else
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:
- A decision on your insurance claim
- What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
- Negotiating a claim settlement

What this survey covers
- Flat roofs
- Gutters and fascias
- Ridges and hips
- Flashings
- Slate and tile slopes
- Chimney stacks
The survey, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey usually takes an hour or two for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Older rural homes like those around Ram Lane can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.
- First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
- We view the roof from wherever it can safely be seen, including the loft where there is access.
- Each area of damage is photographed and described.
- We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
- You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.
Before the survey
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Check pets are kept safely away

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Ram Lane
Godinton House, about 2.1 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Ram Lane. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years. Across Kent, older roofs are often handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. You will also find oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses among the county’s older buildings. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed.
Landlords with a home close to Charing station may find that tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. Shop and office owners around County Square may find that finding where water is getting in quickly keeps disruption down. For site and facilities teams at buildings like The Hayesbrook School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.

Checking the roof from the ground
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
