- Damage from fallen branches or debris
- Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
- Cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind
What a survey costs
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- House, block, shop or office
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Storm damage roof report in Belsize
When a storm has damaged your roof, a written record can help you explain it to your insurer. Our report shows the damage in photos and says whether it looks like storm damage, wear and tear, or a mix. We’re not loss adjusters and can’t tell you if your claim will succeed. What we give you is an independent record of the roof. If you’ve noticed broken or displaced guttering and slates and tiles blown off the roof, we can find out what’s behind it.
Somewhere as small as Belsize, older roofs have often been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, which matters if you’re thinking of an insurance claim. We look at what can be seen safely and set out what we find. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it is worth finding the cause soon.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It is useful right away, and a good reference for later.

Why act early in Belsize
A clear, independent record helps you explain the damage to your insurer. It records the damage and what seems to have caused it, so you’re not relying only on your own photos. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, access and which survey you book.

Honest limits
Before you book, it’s worth knowing what a survey won’t do:
- What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
- The outcome of a claim
- What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will point you to the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs
- Slate and tile slopes
- Gutters and fascias
- Flashings
- Ridges and hips
How it works
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. In a small place like Belsize, access is normally the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- You let us know when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
- We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there is access.
- The damage is recorded with photos, area by area.
- We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
- We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.
Before the survey
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
How to book
If you’re buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or email us whenever suits you.

Leaks and storm damage in Belsize
Chenies Manor House, about 2 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Belsize. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.
If you look after a building like Sarratt Church of England Primary School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back. If you let a flat or house near Kings Langley station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Paul, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Belsize
Do you carry out roof surveys in Belsize?
Yes, Belsize is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Do you cover smaller places like Belsize?
Yes, Belsize is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?
There’s no single figure. Many use gusts of about 55 mph, but each policy sets its own definition. Check your policy wording.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it helps and it is safe, yes. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules. We are a CAA-registered drone operator.
Who handles emergency protection after a storm?
Emergency cover over a damaged roof should be arranged with a roofer. Take photos from the ground first if it’s safe. Keep receipts for any emergency work.
Will you check the loft?
If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
How the survey changes by roof type
Ridge and hip tiles
A lifted ridge tile can let water into the roof. Each one is recorded with photos.
Lead flashings
When flashings lift, water can get behind them. The report records the flashing and any damp inside.
