Storm damage roof reports for Chinbrook homes and businesses

Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Chinbrook

After a storm, it helps to have a clear record of what happened to your roof. We photograph the damage, describe it and note whether it fits storm damage, older wear or both. We aren’t loss adjusters, and we cannot say whether a claim will be paid. What we give you is an independent record of the roof. Typical surveys look at slates and tiles blown off the roof and lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles, on chimney stacks, slate and tile slopes and flat roofs.

In converted houses and blocks across London, water from a roof can run a long way before it shows on a ceiling. Tracing it back matters, both for dealing with the cause and for any insurance claim. In Chinbrook, we inspect what we can reach safely and are given access to. Let us know when the water shows, and in what kind of weather.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What a storm damage roof report doesn’t cover

We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • A decision on your insurance claim
  • Negotiating a claim settlement
  • Repair costs or quotes for the work

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.

Roofs we survey in Chinbrook

  • Flashings
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Flat roofs
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Ridges and hips
  • Chimney stacks

The survey, step by step

Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take about one to two hours for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. In Chinbrook, as in much of London, a good many properties are flats or terraces without side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents as you book.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. We check the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. We record and photograph the damage.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

Chinbrook: your questions answered

Is parking a problem for a survey in Chinbrook?

London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway as you book. That way the visit can be planned around it.

Is my home in Chinbrook listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days when you book.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

Do you cover Chinbrook?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and that includes Chinbrook.

How do I arrange a storm damage roof report in Chinbrook?

Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Do you look in the loft space?

If it is needed and safe to reach, yes. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging.

Roof by roof

Slate roofs

Natural slate can last 100 years or more, but the nails often fail first. The report records whether slipped slates look like storm damage or older wear.

Chimney stacks

Pots, cowls and aerials on chimneys can be damaged or dislodged in a storm. We record any damage we can see.

Chinbrook roofs and the weather

Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. About 1.3 miles north-east lies Eltham Palace, a reminder of how long the area around Chinbrook has been built on. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

Take an older house close to Jubilee International Church: the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself. If you look after a building such as Marvels Lane Primary School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. Homes near green spaces such as Chinbrook Meadows can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.

What affects the price in Chinbrook

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

What to tell us when you contact us

We will usually ask about:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • The address and postcode of the property

Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the details.

Tips from our surveys

Getting the most from a storm damage roof report starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:

  • Write down when the storm hit and when you noticed damage
  • File receipts for anything you pay for
  • Check your policy for how to report damage
  • Record any water damage in rooms and the loft

You’ll need a roofer’s quote for the repairs. They can use our report to see what needs doing.

Store invoices and reports for any roof work. They help show the roof was in good order before a storm.

Checking the roof from ground level

It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book, as it helps us focus the survey.

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
