Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Church End

If your roof has been damaged, stay safe first. Photograph the damage from ground level or a window, and never climb up. Emergency temporary protection, such as covering an opening, is a job for a roofer. We then record the damage in a report you can pass to your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. Common reasons to book are flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind, across chimney stacks, flat roofs and gutters and fascias.

London’s Victorian and Edwardian roofs have frequently been repaired many times. Telling wear from a one-off event matters, because insurers usually exclude wear and tear. That’s as true in Church End as anywhere in London. A written record with photos helps you explain what was found to whoever deals with it next.

We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, and where it can wait, that is said too.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports

To price your survey, we look at:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Which survey package you book
  • How big the roof is
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

All our prices include VAT. Prices start from £150, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.

Booking your survey

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside

Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or drop us an email, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

Flashings around stacks can lift in strong winds. We photograph any we find.

Flat roof coverings

Wind can lift the edges of flat roof coverings or tear them. Damage is photographed and described.

When you need someone else

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Acting for you with the insurer
  • The outcome of a claim
  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Flashings
  • Ridges and hips
  • Gutters and fascias

What we do, step by step

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we check everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. Most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. In Church End, as in much of London, plenty of properties are flats or terraces without side access, so the back of the roof is frequently seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents as you book.

  1. You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
  2. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the roof space where it is safe.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
  5. The findings are written up with photographs for you to share with your insurer.

Preparing for the visit

  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • Jot down any questions you want answered

Arrange a survey

Not sure which survey you need? It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will explain the options and the price.

Advice

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Church End

Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. The wider area around Church End has a long history of building, with Heath Hall about 2.1 miles south-east. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

For businesses in and around places such as Grand Arcade, water through a ceiling can damage stock and close a sales floor, so the source needs finding fast. If you let a flat or house near New Southgate station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Knowing whether older wear played a part helps you understand your position. Our report gives an honest view of both, so you know what the roof shows. Behind a London parapet, a blocked gutter can sit full of water without anyone seeing it. When the stain finally shows, the damage underneath is often older than it looks.

Our price is from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT, and we’ll tell you which fits.

Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Church End

Flat roofs can be damaged too. Wind can lift edges and tear coverings, and blocked outlets can leave water ponding after heavy rain. Our report covers flat and pitched roofs.

Typical things we are asked to look at include:

  • Damaged ridges and hips
  • Gutters pulled loose in the wind
  • Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
  • Roofs hit by falling trees

If you live near a park such as Victoria Park, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.

Before you book anyone

  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Are they insured for the work?
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one

Questions from Church End

Is my home in Church End listed or in a conservation area?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Church End?

Sometimes, yes. Where there are permit zones, a visitor permit or nearby pay-and-display bay works well, and a driveway is even better.

Will you check the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you when you book.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

How long will you be at the property?

Expect it to take about one to two hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. The written report follows by email.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not unless it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
