Storm damage roof report in Clapham

When a storm has damaged your roof, a written record can help you explain it to your insurer. Our report shows the damage in photos and says whether it looks like storm damage, wear and tear, or a mix. We aren’t loss adjusters, and we can’t say whether a claim will be paid. What you get is an independent view of the roof’s condition. If you’ve noticed holes or cracks caused by debris and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Roofs in small places like Clapham frequently stand in the open, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A record with photographs is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.

Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

For landlords and managing agents

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.

With a portfolio of properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

It is useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book.

What this survey cannot tell you

In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
  • Whether your insurer will pay the claim
  • The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Ridges and hips
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Flat roofs
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Flashings

The survey, step by step

We’ll ask a few questions first, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes an hour or two for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Older rural homes like those around Clapham can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
  2. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the roof space where it is safe.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
  5. You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.

Before the survey

  • Keep pets in another room
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Clapham

How do I find out if my home in Clapham is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when you book.

How are storm damage reports priced?

Our reports start from £150. Commercial and larger roofs are quoted on size. The report doesn’t include repair costs.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Clapham

Clapham is within about 4 miles of the coast, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Driving rain off the sea can be pushed into gaps that stay dry in calmer weather, and salt air slowly wears metal fixings. Ecclesden Manor, about 1.5 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Clapham. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

If you own a rental within reach of Goring-By-Sea station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer straight away. Homes near green spaces such as Clapham Wood can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Clapham and Patching CofE Primary School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.
