Dean Storm Damage Roof Report
We carry out storm damage roof reports in Dean and the rest of Hampshire. Surveys run on any day of the week.
- Water coming in after the storm
- Lead lifted at abutments
- Broken or displaced guttering
How it works
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take between one and two hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. In a hamlet or village like Dean, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- The roof is inspected from safe positions.
- We record and photograph the damage.
- The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
- We send you the report by email for your insurer.
Before the survey
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Leave a clear route to the loft

About our storm damage roof report in Dean
Each roof is looked at from the safest viewpoints available: the ground, windows and vantage points, the loft where there’s access, and the roof itself where that’s safe. Every area of damage is photographed and described. We note any part we couldn’t see. The report, with photos, is yours to pass to your insurer. Typical surveys look at flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and damaged flat roof membrane, on slate and tile slopes, ridges and hips and flashings.
For a small place like Dean, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned ahead of time. It helps to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, along with any repairs done before. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Can I check my roof myself?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Dean
Strong winds lift loose or poorly fixed slates and tiles, ridge pieces and flashings. Driving rain then gets in through the gaps. People normally call us after a storm, once they’ve noticed damage or a leak.
Typical things we’re asked to look at include:
- Ridge tiles that have come loose
- Damage from fallen branches or debris
- Damaged flat roof membrane
- Water coming in after the storm
If you look after a building like Bishops Waltham Infant School, a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside.

Dean: your questions answered
Is Dean in the area you cover?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and Dean is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details.
Is Dean within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
How long does the survey take?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Do you look in the roof space?
If it is needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement.
How do I book a survey in Dean?
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Can I challenge a declined storm claim?
Start by complaining to the insurer. The Financial Ombudsman Service may look at it if that does not resolve it. The Ombudsman looks at whether there were storm conditions, whether the damage fits a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

Leaks and storm damage in Dean
Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed.
For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Peter, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney. If you let a flat or house near Botley station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over.

For landlords and managing agents

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.
What we look for on each type of roof
Chimney stacks
Flashings around stacks can lift in strong winds. Loose flashings are recorded.
Lead flashings
When flashings lift, water can get behind them. We note where this has happened and any damp inside.
How we price storm damage roof reports
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- The size of the roof
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Booking your survey
These details help when you contact us:
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
- What’s prompted the survey
