Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in East Claydon

Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies by policy. Check your own policy wording. Whether the weather met it is for your insurer. We record the damage and what seems to have caused it. The report includes photos of each area of damage, and you decide what to send. The claim decision rests with your insurer. If you’re worried about water coming in after the storm and roofs hit by falling trees, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

For a small place like East Claydon, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned beforehand. It helps to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photos of the water coming in, they help as well.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

What we do, step by step

The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. All told, expect an hour or two on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Older roofs in small places like East Claydon can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. You tell us what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it is safe.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. You receive the written report with photos.

FAQs for East Claydon

Does a conservation area affect roof work in East Claydon?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is East Claydon in the area you cover?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and East Claydon is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details, and we will talk through which survey suits.

What do I do if water is coming in?

A roofer should handle temporary protection. Photograph the damage first if you can do so safely. We can record the damage in our report.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.

Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?

It depends on your policy. Many use gusts of about 55 mph, but each policy sets its own definition. Check your policy wording.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

What we are asked to look at in East Claydon

Branches and trees often come down on roofs during storms. The report shows what was hit and the damage caused, backed up with photos.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Damaged ridges and hips
  • Damaged gutters and fascias
  • Cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind
  • Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks

If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.
