Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Empshott

What counts as a storm depends on your policy, though many use gusts of about 55 mph. Your policy document sets out its own definition. Whether the weather met it is for your insurer. Our part is recording the damage to your roof and its likely cause. Each area of damage is photographed, and the report is yours to pass on. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We are frequently asked to look into slipped or missing slates or tiles and stains appearing after strong winds, on flashings, slate and tile slopes and chimney stacks.

Roofs in small places like Empshott frequently stand in the open, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A record with photos is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What we do, step by step

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes an hour or two for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Somewhere as small as Empshott, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. You let us know when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
  2. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows and from the roof space where it is safe.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We check whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
  5. We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.

How to prepare

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Leave side gates unlocked

Getting a price

If you’re buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email whenever suits you.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A few slipped slates can soon lead to wet timbers. Getting it recorded and repaired sooner is typically better. Outbuildings and barns around Empshott are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridge and hip tiles

Water can get in where ridge tiles have moved. Each one is recorded with photos.

Chimney stacks

Wind can pull the flashings away from a chimney. We photograph any we find.

Storm damage roof reports around Empshott

Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of the Holy Rood, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. Landlords with a home close to Liss station may find that tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Empshott

Will you come out to Empshott?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Empshott?

Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Empshott is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a few details.

What wind speed counts as a storm?

Each policy has its own definition. Many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but your policy sets the actual test.

Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?

We can’t say whether a claim will be paid. The decision rests with your insurer and its policy. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Tell us about it when you book and we will explain what’s needed.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies.

What if my insurer declines the claim?

Complain to your insurer first. If you’re still unhappy, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Our report gives you an independent record of the roof, though we can’t predict the outcome.

What this survey can’t tell you

We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • A decision on your insurance claim
  • Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
  • Repair costs or quotes for the work

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
