Common questions in Holywell
Do you cover Holywell?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and Holywell is part of that. Just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Holywell?
In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a bay close to the door helps a lot, so mention what’s available when you book.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
How do I book a survey in Holywell?
Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.
What does a storm damage report cost?
Prices start from £150, including VAT. Bigger roofs are quoted on size and access. Repair costs are not included, so ask a roofer to quote.
Do I need to be at home?
Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when booking.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
About our storm damage roof report in Holywell
The Financial Ombudsman asks three questions when it looks at storm complaints: whether there were storm conditions around the date, whether the damage fits a storm, and whether the storm was the main cause. Our report focuses on the second and third points. Weather records for the date are for you or your insurer to check. Common reasons to book are holes or cracks caused by debris and damaged ridges and hips, on flashings, ridges and hips and flat roofs.
In converted houses and blocks across London, water from a roof can run a long way before it shows on a ceiling. Tracing it back matters, both for dealing with the cause and for any insurance claim. In Holywell, we inspect what we can reach safely and are given access to. It’s useful to know when the water appears and in what weather.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Why get it checked now?
Once the storm has passed, damage that looked minor can let water in for months. Getting it recorded and repaired sooner is typically better. Work on a London roof is rarely simple to arrange, with parking, neighbours and access all to think about. Knowing what’s needed early gives you time to plan it calmly.
Prices start from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included.

How the survey works
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so a visit in Holywell moves between viewpoints: the pavement, upstairs windows, the loft and any safe spot at the back. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Tell us who holds the keys.
- You tell us what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- We record fresh damage and older defects.
- The report, with photos, is emailed to you.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Tips that help
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Don’t go onto the roof to take pictures
- Take photos of stains and damp inside
- Keep fallen slates or tiles as evidence if safe
- Write down when the storm hit and when you noticed damage
Your insurer may send a loss adjuster to look at the damage. Our report gives you an independent record alongside theirs.
Check the roof from ground level after strong winds. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or lifted ridges. Do not go up a ladder to look.
When you need someone else
A survey is a close look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. The main limits are:
- How your policy defines a storm
- The outcome of a claim
- Estimates of repair costs
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

Checking the roof from ground level
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book, as it helps us focus the survey.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Storm damage roof reports around Holywell
Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, frequently with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. Hips, bay roofs and later loft conversions are typical of those semis, if your home is one of them. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed. About 4.1 miles north lies High Elms Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Holywell has been built on. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
If you live near a park like King George V Playing Fields, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. The streets around a church such as St Oswald's Parish Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.

Common roof problems in Holywell
When you claim, your insurer may ask for evidence of the damage and its cause. A written report with photos gives you something clear to pass on. The decision still rests with the insurer.
Common reasons to book include:
- Cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind
- Lead lifted at abutments
- Damaged flat roof membrane
- Ridge tiles that have come loose
For businesses in and around places such as Charter Place, water through a ceiling can damage stock and close a sales floor, so the source needs finding fast.
Questions to ask before booking
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
- What follow-up you get after the report
- What the report includes, and whether it has photos
