Storm damage roof report in Horn Hill
A storm damage roof report is an independent record of the damage to your roof after a storm. It sets out what is damaged, with photos, and what we think the likely cause is. You can then give it to your insurer with your claim. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We are not loss adjusters, and we can’t tell you whether a claim will succeed. If you’ve noticed stains appearing after strong winds and damaged pots on the stack, we can find out what’s behind it.
Roofs in small places like Horn Hill frequently stand in the open, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, like when you want to compare after future work.

Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
FAQs for Horn Hill
Is Horn Hill within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Is Horn Hill in the area you cover?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, and Horn Hill is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property.
Should I go up on the roof to take photos?
Only from ground level or from windows. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. With binoculars, you can see a lot from the ground, and we will record the rest.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
Will you check the loft?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. The loft space can show things the outside cannot, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
How experienced are you?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.
Why get it checked now?
Once the storm has passed, damage that looked minor can let water in for months. Acting quickly typically means less damage overall. For older village homes like those around Horn Hill, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

The survey, step by step
Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Older rural homes like those around Horn Hill can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
- We view the roof from wherever it can be seen safely, including the loft where there’s access.
- The damage is recorded with photographs, area by area.
- The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
- You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.
Before we arrive
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Advice
What we cannot see
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:
- Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
- The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
- Whether your insurer will pay the claim
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

Storm damage roof reports in Horn Hill: local notes
Historic houses such as Chenies Manor House, about 3.6 miles north, show how far back building in the area around Horn Hill goes. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.
Landlords with a home close to Chorleywood station may find that a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer right away. Take a building like Maple Cross Junior Mixed Infant and Nursery School: a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside. If you own one of the older houses in the streets near St Paul's, leaks on older roofs frequently start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.
