Storm damage roof report in Linchmere: what you get
Most policies don’t cover wear and tear. So it matters whether the damage came from the storm or from a roof that was already worn. Our report records both: fresh breaks and recently moved slates or tiles, and older problems such as corroded nails or worn mortar. We give an honest view of what we see. Your insurer then decides how its policy applies. We survey flashings, slate and tile slopes and ridges and hips, and people most frequently book us about lead lifted at abutments and lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles.
Being in a small place like Linchmere makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. It helps to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photos of the water coming in, they help as well.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Linchmere: your questions answered
How do I find out if my home in Linchmere is listed?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Is Linchmere in the area you cover?
Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Linchmere is part of that. Just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the property.
How long does the survey take?
It typically takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. You will then get the report by email.
Do you need to get into the loft?
Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.
How are storm damage reports priced?
Our reports start from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. Repair costs aren’t part of the report.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
What happens on the day
The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It typically takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Older roofs in small places like Linchmere can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- You tell us what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- The report, with photos, is emailed to you.
Getting ready for the survey
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Advice
Prices for storm damage roof reports in Linchmere
When we price a survey, we consider:
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Roof area
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, including VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.
Booking your survey
To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
We confirm the price for your roof before you book, so you know where you stand. Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. For a price for your roof, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
What you can safely check yourself
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Why it is worth a survey now in Linchmere
Many policies expect damage to be reported promptly. Check the wording and tell your insurer as soon as you can. An independent report can follow. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

Common roof problems in Linchmere
Storms don’t only affect pitched roofs. Coverings can tear or peel back at the edges, and water can pond where outlets are blocked. We record what we find on flat and pitched roofs alike.
We are often asked to look at:
- Loose or broken chimney pots and cowls
- Damaged flat roof membrane
- Water coming in after the storm
- Damaged ridges and hips
If you look after a building such as Woolmer Hill School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.
Before you book anyone
- How soon the report will arrive
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- What the survey won’t cover
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
For landlords and managing agents
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out with the most urgent first where relevant, which helps when budgeting.
We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos.
What a storm damage roof report looks like in Linchmere
Older houses across Surrey often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts. Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.
Landlords with a home close to Liphook station may find that tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of St Peter, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.
