FAQs for Lindsell
Do you cover Lindsell?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and Lindsell is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a few details.
Will you come out to Lindsell?
Yes. Lindsell is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Will my insurer pay out if I get a storm damage report?
That is not something we can promise. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. What we provide is an independent record of the damage.
Is wear and tear covered by insurance?
Wear and tear is usually excluded from home insurance. Our report records storm damage and any older wear we see, so you know what the roof shows. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you as you book.
Who handles emergency protection after a storm?
A roofer should handle temporary protection. If it is safe, take photos before it goes on. Our report then records the roof.
Storm damage roof report in Lindsell: what you get
Our storm damage report starts from £150. You get a written report with photos by email. It is not a repair quote and doesn’t include repair costs, so you’ll need a roofer’s quote for that. Your insurer may also send its own loss adjuster. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause. Common reasons to book are slipped or missing slates or tiles and lead lifted at abutments, on gutters and fascias, slate and tile slopes and flat roofs.
Being in a small place like Lindsell makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, plus any earlier repairs. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
How it works
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. Rural addresses near Lindsell can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
- We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there’s access.
- We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
- The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
- The findings are written up with photographs for you to share with your insurer.
Preparing for the visit
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Clear the way to the loft hatch

What a survey costs
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, which starts from £400, including VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.
What to let us know when you contact us
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Your timetable, like an exchange date
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.
What happens if roof problems are left?
If a roofer needs to make the roof safe, take photos first if you can do so safely from ground level. Those photos show the damage as it was. Older and listed buildings around Lindsell may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Lindsell
Clay tiles and timber weatherboarding mark out many of the older buildings in Essex, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. Historic houses such as Horham Hall, about 3.6 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around Lindsell goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
Take a building like Putteridge High School: tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.
Lindsell is about 8 miles west of Braintree, in Essex. Surveys in Lindsell work the same way as everywhere we cover: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. Our Essex coverage includes Lindsell. Chelmsford is in our area too.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Lindsell
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it when you book and we will plan the survey around it.
Letting agents and landlords in Lindsell book surveys as well as homeowners. A written report with photographs gives you a clear record of the roof, useful for planning maintenance.
What we’re asked to look at in Lindsell
Some people book because a claim has been questioned. You get an independent record of what the roof shows. What happens next is up to the insurer.
Typical things we’re asked to look at include:
- Damaged pots on the stack
- Slates and tiles blown off the roof
- Damaged gutters and fascias
- Ridge tiles that have come loose
The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary the Virgin are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.
