Storm damage roof report in Little London

After a storm, it helps to have a clear record of what happened to your roof. We photograph the damage, describe it and note whether it fits storm damage, older wear or both. We are not loss adjusters and cannot tell you if your claim will succeed. What we give you is an independent record of the roof. If you’ve noticed stains appearing after strong winds and flashings pulled away from walls or stacks, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Being in a small place like Little London makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. It is useful to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, plus any earlier repairs. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

What a survey costs

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:

  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages

Our price is from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT.

Helping us price your survey

If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:

  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • What made you get in touch
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

To book a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price before you book.

Practical tips

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:

  • Look at what your policy says about wear and tear
  • Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed
  • Keep a note of the date of the storm
  • Hold on to fallen pieces of the roof where you can

If you are unhappy with how your insurer handles the claim, you can complain to them first. After that, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Keep the roof in good order between storms. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.

Little London: your questions answered

Do you cover Little London?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and Little London is part of that. Just phone 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the property.

Will you come out to Little London?

Yes, Little London is covered. Our area covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Yes, where it’s applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the survey around it.

How long will you be at the property?

Time on site depends on the roof, but most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. The report is sent afterwards by email.

Will my insurer pay for an old roof?

Insurers normally exclude wear and tear. Our report gives an honest view of what’s recent damage and what’s older wear. Your insurer decides the claim.

What wind speed counts as a storm?

It varies by policy. Many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but check your own wording.

Checking the roof from ground level

It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

For landlords and managing agents

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Little London. For a price for a let property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.

How it works

There is not much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. A typical survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Somewhere as small as Little London, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You tell us what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it is safe.
  4. Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
  5. You receive the written report with photographs.

Before the survey

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Getting a price

Our price is from £150, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.

Wind, rain and roofs in Little London

Historic houses like Boarstall Tower, about 1.7 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around Little London goes. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from.

If you look after a building like Oakley Church of England Combined School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.

Different roofs, different checks

Clay and concrete tiles

Tiles can lift, crack or blow off in high winds. We record which are damaged and where.

Slate roofs

Slates often outlast the nails that hold them. We check whether slipped slates suggest storm damage, older wear or both.
