If your roof has been damaged, stay safe first. Photograph the damage from ground level or a window, and never climb up. Emergency temporary protection, like covering an opening, is a job for a roofer. We then record the damage in a report you can pass to your insurer. Keep receipts for any emergency work. If you’ve noticed broken or displaced guttering and torn or lifted flat roof coverings, we can find out what’s behind it.

Common questions in Marsh Green
Does being near the coast affect roofs in Marsh Green?
Generally, yes: wind and salt air take more of a toll near the sea. Ridges, verges, flashings and fixings are where it usually shows, and Marsh Green is within about 1 mile of the coast.
Is Marsh Green within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Should I go up on the roof to take photos?
Only from the ground or from windows. Don’t use a ladder or go onto the roof. With binoculars, you can see a lot from ground level and we will inspect the rest from safe positions.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where it’s applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, and we check for restrictions near airports before flying. We are a CAA-registered drone operator.
Do you act for me with my insurer?
No. We write an independent report, and you decide how to use it. Your insurer may appoint its own loss adjuster.
Do you look in the roof space?
Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

How the survey works
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Older rural homes like those around Marsh Green can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
- We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there is access.
- The damage is recorded with photos, area by area.
- We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
- You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets in another room
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Leave side gates unlocked
