How a storm damage roof report works in Middleton

We inspect the roof from wherever it can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and higher points, from the loft space and from the roof where it is safe. We photograph and describe each area of damage. If part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. You get a report with photographs to give to your insurer. We survey flashings, chimney stacks and slate and tile slopes, and the problems we are asked to look at most are damaged ridges and hips and broken or displaced guttering.

Roofs in small places like Middleton frequently stand in the open, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A record with photographs is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What we do, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. It usually takes about one to two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Somewhere like Middleton needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
  2. We view the roof from wherever it can safely be seen, including the loft where there’s access.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
  5. We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.

All our prices include VAT. Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.

Booking your survey

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is

When you need someone else

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
  • The outcome of a claim
  • A price for the repairs

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.

  • Gutters and fascias

  • Slate and tile slopes

Why get it checked now?

The sooner the damage is recorded, the clearer the evidence. Later weather and temporary repairs can make it harder to see what happened. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Middleton, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Our price is from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we can help you choose.

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

Pots, cowls and aerials on chimneys can be damaged or dislodged in a storm. The report notes any damage to the stack.

Clay and concrete tiles

Broken or missing tiles leave the underlay exposed to rain. We photograph each gap.

Storm damage roof reports in Middleton: local notes

Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list, ideally before any re-roofing is planned.

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Longparish Church of England Primary School, a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside. If you own a rental within reach of Whitchurch (Hampshire) station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Nicholas, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself.

Middleton is about 4 miles east of Andover, in Hampshire. In Middleton, as across Hampshire, every roof gets the same careful survey. Across Hampshire, we cover Middleton. Southampton is in our area too.

Tips from our surveys

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:

  • Photograph damage inside the house too
  • Report the damage to your insurer as soon as you can
  • Keep fallen slates or tiles as evidence if safe
  • Do not go onto the roof to take pictures

If anything in the report is not clear, just ask us. Standard Surveys come with a follow-up consultation, and Premium Surveys with an in-person one.

Clear gutters and outlets before the stormy months. Blocked drainage can add water damage to wind damage.

FAQs for Middleton

Do you cover smaller places like Middleton?

Yes, Middleton is covered. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

How do I find out if my home in Middleton is listed?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Do I need to be at home?

Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

How experienced are you?

We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.

Is wear and tear covered by insurance?

Wear and tear is not usually covered. Our report gives an honest view of what’s recent damage and what’s older wear. The claim decision is your insurer’s.

Can you tell me if my claim will be paid?

Only your insurer can decide that. Our report records what is damaged, with photos, and the likely cause, for you to give to your insurer.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.
