Neatham Storm Damage Roof Report
An independent record of roof damage after a storm for Neatham, from an experienced roof surveyor. You get a clear written report with photographs.
- Damaged flat roof membrane
- Holes or cracks caused by debris
- Water coming in after the storm
DIY checks: what’s safe
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
Storm damage roof report in Neatham: what you get
Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. It sets out what is damaged, with photographs, and what we think the likely cause is. You can then give it to your insurer with your claim. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We are not loss adjusters and cannot say whether a claim will be paid. We survey slate and tile slopes, flashings and chimney stacks, and people most frequently book us about damaged ridges and hips and cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind.
Roofs in small places like Neatham often stand in the open, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A record with photographs is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

What a survey costs
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- Which survey package you book
- The shape of the roof and its details
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. You will know the price for your survey before booking.
What to let us know when you contact us
If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
- The property’s address and postcode
- The kind of building and roof involved
- What made you get in touch
If you’re buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or email us when you are ready.
Wind, rain and roofs in Neatham
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. The wider area around Neatham has a long history of building, with Bentworth Hall about 4.8 miles west. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Landlords with a home close to Alton station may find that finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Holy Rood Church, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Andrews' Endowed Church of England Primary School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.

How the survey changes by roof type
Flat roof coverings
Wind can lift the edges of flat roof coverings or tear them. We record any damage and where it is.
Slate roofs
Slates can slip or blow off in a storm, particularly where the nails have corroded. We record which slates have moved and any signs of older nail fatigue.
When you need someone else
Before booking, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:
- Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
- Estimates of repair costs
- How your policy defines a storm
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

Questions from Neatham
Do you cover Neatham?
Yes, Neatham is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Neatham as anywhere else.
Do you cover smaller places like Neatham?
Yes. Neatham is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.
Can you tell me if my claim will be paid?
Only your insurer can decide that. We record the damage, with photographs and the likely cause, which you can pass to your insurer.
Does someone need to be in?
Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
What does a storm damage report cost?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. Bigger roofs are quoted on size and access. Repair costs are not included, so ask a roofer to quote.
Before and after the survey
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:
- Keep fallen slates or tiles as evidence if safe
- Report the damage to your insurer as soon as you can
- Read your policy wording on storm damage
- Note the date and time you first saw the damage
You’ll need a roofer’s quote for the repairs. They can use our report to see what needs doing.
Keep the roof in good order between storms. Have loose slates, tiles and flashings seen to promptly.
How it works
Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit normally takes between one and two hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Cottages and farmhouses around Neatham often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
- We check inside, including the loft where there is access, for water damage.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it’s safe.
- We record fresh damage and older defects.
- The report, with photos, is emailed to you.
Before we arrive
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
