About our storm damage roof report in Wyck

A storm damage roof report is an independent record of the damage to your roof after a storm. It sets out what is damaged, with photographs, and what we think the likely cause is. It is yours to pass to your insurer. The decision on any claim rests with your insurer and its policy wording. We aren’t loss adjusters and cannot say whether a claim will be paid. Common reasons to book are slates and tiles blown off the roof and roofs hit by falling trees, across flat roofs, ridges and hips and slate and tile slopes.

For a small place like Wyck, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned in advance. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. Photos of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

How it works

We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. The whole visit normally takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. In a small place like Wyck, access is normally the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
  3. The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it’s safe.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Advice

What a survey costs

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • How big the roof is
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT.

What we need to know

Some details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, it is useful to mention:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To find a date that works for you, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and the days you’d prefer.

Storm damage roof reports around Wyck

Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, before anyone quotes for re-roofing. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in.

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Mary, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in. Landlords with a home close to Alton station may find that a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over.

Wyck is about 3 miles east of Alton, in Hampshire. Whether the building in Wyck is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, we can survey the roof. We cover towns and villages across Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages. Guildford is in our area too.

We work across GU34 for storm damage roof reports. If you are just outside Wyck, we cover East Worldham (1 mile south-west), Neatham (1 mile north-west), Holybourne (2 miles north-west), Upper Froyle (2 miles north) and Hartley Mauditt (2 miles south-west). Within a short drive, we also cover Basingstoke (11 miles north-west), Farnborough (12 miles north-east), Fleet (9 miles north), Aldershot (10 miles north-east), Alton (3 miles west) and Petersfield (10 miles south).

We work in homes and buildings around Eggar's School. For rail, the closest station is Alton station, about 2.2 miles west. Nearby you will also find Alton Community Hospital (3.2 miles west) and Barley Pound (5 miles north-east). Green spaces nearby include Deadwater Valley and Holybourne Hill.

What happens if roof problems are left?

A few slipped slates can soon lead to wet timbers. Getting it recorded and repaired sooner is usually better. In a place like Wyck, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

Every price we give includes VAT. Prices start from £150, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.

Common roof problems in Wyck

Roofs that were already worn are more likely to suffer in a storm. Corroded nails on slate roofs, worn mortar on ridges and old flashings can all give way. Our report notes both the storm damage and any older wear.

People normally book a survey after spotting one of these:

  • Cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind
  • Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
  • Damaged ridges and hips
  • New damp or leaks inside

If you look after a building like Binsted Church of England Primary School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.

What to check before booking

  • Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • When you’ll get the report

What a roof survey includes

Wyck questions

Is Wyck in the area you cover?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Wyck as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Will you come out to Wyck?

Yes, Wyck is covered. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

What does a storm damage report cost?

Our reports start from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. Repair costs are not part of the report.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we will agree the details as you book.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

Will my insurer pay for an old roof?

Wear and tear is normally excluded from home insurance. We note both storm damage and older defects, so it’s clear what we found. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.

Different roofs, different checks

Slate roofs

Natural slate can last 100 years or more, but the nails frequently fail first. We look at whether slipped slates suggest storm damage, older wear or both.

Flat roof coverings

Wind can lift the edges of flat roof coverings or tear them. Damage is photographed and described.

Useful tips for Wyck property owners

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:

  • Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
  • File receipts for anything you pay for
  • Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it is safe to do so
  • Read your policy wording on storm damage

Your insurer may send a loss adjuster to look at the damage. You will have your own independent record to refer to.

Keep the roof in good order between storms. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.
