About our storm damage roof report in North Aston
When a storm has damaged your roof, a written record can help you explain it to your insurer. Our report shows the damage in photos and says whether it looks like storm damage, wear and tear, or a mix. We are not loss adjusters and cannot tell you if your claim will succeed. What we give you is an independent record of the roof. We survey flashings, ridges and hips and gutters and fascias, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and torn or lifted flat roof coverings.
In a village or hamlet like North Aston, older cottages and farmhouses often have roofs that have been patched over many years. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, which matters if you’re thinking of an insurance claim. We check everything that’s safely in view and set out what we find. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Landlord and commercial surveys in North Aston
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed in advance. Surveys run on any day of the week, which can make access easier.
Landlords and agents in North Aston book surveys as well as householders. A photo-illustrated written report gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
Checking the roof from ground level
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.
It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
Storm damage roof reports in North Aston: local notes
Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed. Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas.
Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.

FAQs for North Aston
Do you cover North Aston?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and North Aston is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in North Aston?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Do you look in the loft space?
If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.
How should I record storm damage myself?
Stay off the roof. Take photos from ground level or from windows. Note the date and time, and photograph any damage inside.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.
Can you tell me if my claim will be paid?
We cannot say whether a claim will be paid. The decision rests with your insurer and its policy. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Roof by roof
Flat roof coverings
On flat roofs, storms can lift edges and tear membranes. Damage is photographed and described.
Slate roofs
Natural slate can last 100 years or more, but the nails frequently fail first. We check whether slipped slates suggest storm damage, older wear or both.
When you need someone else
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- Estimates of repair costs
- Areas we can’t see safely
- What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.
What we look at
- Flashings
- Gutters and fascias
- Flat roofs
- Slate and tile slopes
- Chimney stacks
- Ridges and hips
How the survey works
We check the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. All in, the survey usually takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Somewhere like North Aston needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, inside and out.
- First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
- The roof is inspected from safe positions.
- Each area of damage is photographed and described.
- The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
- We send you the report by email for your insurer.
Getting ready for the survey
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
