Storm damage roof reports in Palestine

How it works

The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. It usually takes between one and two hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Somewhere like Palestine needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. The roof is inspected from ground level, windows and the roof where it is safe.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. You receive the written report with photos.

How to prepare

  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Keep pets in another room

Advice

How a storm damage roof report works in Palestine

After a storm, safety comes first. Photograph the damage from ground level or a window, and never climb up. If water is coming in, a roofer can put temporary protection in place. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. If you’ve noticed holes or cracks caused by debris and water coming in after the storm, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Somewhere as small as Palestine, older roofs have often been repaired many times. That makes it hard to tell new damage from old wear, which matters if you are thinking of an insurance claim. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it’s worth finding the cause soon.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

Honest limits

We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
  • Estimates of repair costs
  • The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

Roofs we survey in Palestine

  • Flashings
  • Flat roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Ridges and hips
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Slate and tile slopes

What we look for on each type of roof

Lead flashings

When flashings lift, water can get behind them. We note where this has happened and any damp inside.

Clay and concrete tiles

Tiles can lift, crack or blow off in high winds. The report shows each damaged area.

Palestine roofs and the weather

Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. About 4.7 miles south-west lies Idmiston Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Palestine has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs.

Landlords with a home close to Grateley station may find that a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer straight away. Take an older house close to Church of St Leonard: lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Grateley Primary School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.

Palestine is in Hampshire. Palestine gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful look at everything that’s safely in view, photographs and a clear written report. Across Hampshire, we cover Palestine and the places around it. For surveys nearby, see our Southampton page.

Useful tips for Palestine property owners

Getting the most from a storm damage roof report starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:

  • Keep invoices for temporary repairs
  • Report the damage to your insurer as soon as you can
  • Photograph the damage safely from below
  • Photograph damage inside the house too

Your insurer may send a loss adjuster to look at the damage. You will have your own independent record to refer to.

Check the roof from ground level after strong winds. With binoculars, you can frequently spot problems without climbing. Never climb onto the roof yourself.

DIY checks: what’s safe

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Prices for storm damage roof reports in Palestine

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:

  • The roof’s overall size
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Common questions in Palestine

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Palestine?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Will you come out to Palestine?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

How are storm damage reports priced?

Our reports start from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. The report does not include repair costs.

Can I challenge a declined storm claim?

Raise it with your insurer first. If it is not resolved, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to help. The Ombudsman looks at whether there were storm conditions, whether the damage fits a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.

How experienced are you?

We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

Are you loss adjusters?

No. We are not loss adjusters and do not act for you with the insurer. We give you an independent report of the damage, which you can pass to your insurer.
