  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

Getting in touch

These details help when you get in touch:

  • What made you get in touch
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat

Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Pre-purchase roof survey in Palestine

A Basic Survey starts from £150, with the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. Standard adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. Premium goes further, with thermal imaging, a drone where applicable and a same-day report. Pick the one that fits the property. All three include a written report with photos and recommendations. We survey chimney stacks, clay and concrete tiles and gutters and downpipes, and the problems we are asked to look at most are quick fixes on flashings and valleys and blocked or leaking gutters.

Older buildings in small places like Palestine may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials a new roof may use, so check with the council and Historic England’s list. Whether you are buying or signing off new roofing, it is worth knowing where you stand. There are about 500,000 listed buildings and around 10,000 conservation areas in England.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Common questions in Palestine

Will you come out to Palestine?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Palestine?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.

Do you need access inside the house?

If it can be arranged, yes. From the roof space we can see staining, timbers and underlay. If we cannot get in, the report says so.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it when booking and we will plan the survey around it.

Do you use drones?

Where it helps and it is safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.

Useful tips for Palestine property owners

There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:

  • Mention any deadline when you get in touch
  • Watch for stains or fresh paint on ceilings below the roof
  • Request records of any re-roofing
  • Ask when the roof was last worked on

It’s worth sharing the report with your solicitor so they can raise enquiries with the seller’s side. It can prompt questions about past roof work and any paperwork for it, particularly where we have found patch repairs.

Keep the loft ventilated. Condensation in a roof space can look like a leak and can damage timbers over time. Keep insulation clear of eaves vents so air can move.

What a pre-purchase roof survey doesn’t cover

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • How a seller will respond, or what the house is worth
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • The condition of the rest of the house (that’s a RICS home survey)

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

What we’re asked to look at in Palestine

Patch repairs are common on roofs of every age. Bitumen painted over a flashing, mortar where lead should be, or a few tiles that do not match can point to a problem that keeps coming back. We note what we see so you can ask about it.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Lead that has worked loose at a wall or chimney
  • Patch repairs that may hide an ongoing problem
  • Cracked flaunching or crumbling chimney pointing
  • Standing water on a flat extension roof

If you live in an older home near Church of St Leonard, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.

What to check before booking

  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • Whether you can ask questions once you have the report

What a good roof survey covers

The survey, step by step

We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Around Palestine, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. After your offer is agreed, you book and share your timetable.
  2. Access to the house and the roof space is agreed ahead of time.
  3. We start outside, looking at the roof from ground level and from vantage points.
  4. Inside, we check the roof space and look at the roof from windows.
  5. The report is emailed with photos and recommendations, ready to use before exchange.

How to prepare

  • If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Let us know about parking before the day

Booking a survey

What a pre-purchase roof survey looks like in Palestine

If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Whether you are buying or checking new roofing work, knowing the materials helps make sense of what the inspection finds.

Landlords with a home close to Grateley station may find that a written report helps before buying a rental or paying for a new roof on one. With Idmiston Manor about 4.7 miles south-west, the area around Palestine has a long history. If you are buying an older home nearby, it is worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before you plan any re-roofing.
