Independent gutter surveys in Palestine

About our gutter survey in Palestine

Most gutters hang from the fascia boards at the eaves, so fascias and soffits are part of the survey. Water that overflows for long enough can rot timber fascias and mark the soffits underneath. On buildings from before 2000, some soffits and rainwater goods may be asbestos cement. We don’t test for asbestos, so we flag anything that might contain it for a specialist asbestos surveyor to check. We’re often asked to look into gutters full of debris and silt and brackets that have dropped or snapped, across parapet and box gutters, outlets and hoppers and fascias and soffits.

Older buildings in small places like Palestine may be listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is frequently expected.

If any part of the gutter couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

How it works

We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit normally takes about one to two hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Older roofs in small places like Palestine can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We agree which parts of the building you’re most worried about.
  2. Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
  3. We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
  4. Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
  5. You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.

Preparing for the visit

  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Advice

Do you need a gutter survey in Palestine?

Hidden gutters are often lined with lead or another sheet covering. When a lining splits or an outlet blocks, the water can come inside as there’s nowhere harmless for it to go. Lead is also a target for theft.

Things that frequently lead to a survey include:

  • Water backing up from a hidden gutter
  • Gutters that have fallen out of line
  • Hoppers and outlets full of debris
  • Water spilling over the gutter edge

Take an older house close to Church of St Leonard: corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs.

What to check before booking

  • What they won’t be able to tell you
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included

What’s in a roof survey

Palestine: your questions answered

Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Grateley station?

Yes, that’s a common request. Let us know whether a tenant or an agent will let us in, and we can send the report to you or your agent.

Do you cover smaller places like Palestine?

Yes, Palestine is covered. We work right across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

What insurance do you have?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.

How long does a gutter survey take?

A visit normally takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. You will know roughly how long when we arrange the visit.

Does the season matter for a gutter survey?

Any time of year works. Before the wetter months gives you time to plan any work, and a wet spell can show where gutters overflow.

What does a gutter survey cost?

The Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard from £250 and the Premium from £400, all with VAT included. For a price for your building, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

DIY checks: what’s safe

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. Recommendations are set out with the most urgent first where relevant, which helps when budgeting.

Landlords, agents and building managers in Palestine and across Hampshire can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

Gutter surveys around Palestine

Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. Idmiston Manor, about 4.7 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Palestine. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

Landlords with a home close to Grateley station may find that knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints. If you look after a building such as Grateley Primary School, long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

Useful tips for Palestine property owners

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Watch for green marks down the brickwork
  • Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall
  • Get trees that overhang the gutters trimmed
  • Watch ceilings under valley gutters for fresh marks

Questions about the report are welcome. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation.

Look at the gutters from indoors or the ground when it pours. Overflows and dripping joints are a sign to act before the walls suffer.

What affects the price in Palestine

Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building

One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

What to tell us when you contact us

When you call or email, these details help:

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • What kind of property and roof it is

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
