Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Racton

A storm damage roof report is priced from £150. You get a written report with photos by email. It does not price the repairs, so ask a roofer to quote for the work. The insurer may still send a loss adjuster of its own. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause. We are frequently asked to look into flat roof edges peeled back and stains appearing after strong winds, on ridges and hips, flat roofs and slate and tile slopes.

Somewhere as small as Racton, older roofs have often been repaired many times. That makes it hard to tell new damage from old wear, which matters if you are thinking of an insurance claim. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it’s worth finding the cause soon.

The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Honest limits

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
  • Whether your insurer will pay the claim
  • Areas we can’t see safely

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Flat roofs
  • Ridges and hips
  • Flashings
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Chimney stacks

For landlords and managing agents

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photographs included.

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

What we’re asked to look at in Racton

When you claim, your insurer may ask for evidence of the damage and its cause. A written report with photos gives you something clear to pass on. The decision still rests with the insurer.

People normally book a survey after spotting one of these:

  • Damaged flat roof membrane
  • Loose or torn flashings
  • Stains appearing after strong winds
  • Damaged gutters and fascias

If you own a rental within reach of Southbourne station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer straight away.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely

FAQs for Racton

Is my home in Racton listed or in a conservation area?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do you cover smaller places like Racton?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. We check the roof, not the whole building, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

What do I do if water is coming in?

Call a roofer for emergency temporary protection. If it’s safe, photograph the damage before it is covered. Keep receipts for any emergency work.

How do I arrange a storm damage roof report in Racton?

Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Is wear and tear covered by insurance?

Wear and tear is typically excluded from home insurance. We note both storm damage and older defects, so you know what the roof shows. How the policy applies is up to your insurer.

Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?

Each policy has its own definition. About 55 mph is a common figure in many policies, but check your own wording.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:

  • Height and safe access
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Which survey package you book

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

Getting in touch

We will usually ask about:

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel

Not sure which survey you need? It’s easiest to phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.

The survey, step by step

We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. In total, it takes an hour or two at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. In a hamlet or village like Racton, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
  3. The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it’s safe.
  4. Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Before the survey

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Book a survey

A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Tips from our surveys

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:

  • Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
  • Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
  • Keep invoices for temporary repairs
  • Do not go onto the roof to take pictures

Questions about the findings are always welcome. Standard Surveys come with a follow-up consultation, and Premium Surveys with an in-person one.

A well-maintained roof stands up to storms better. Have loose slates, tiles and flashings seen to promptly.

Wind, rain and roofs in Racton

Racton lies within about 3 miles of the sea, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. Wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces, and driving rain finds any gap they leave, and salt air slowly wears metal fixings. In Sussex, older roofs are frequently handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.

Take a building like Bourne Community College: on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. Living close to Stansted Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching.

Racton is about 3 miles north-east of Emsworth, in West Sussex. Racton is part of the area we cover across London and South East England. We cover towns and villages across West Sussex, large and small. You can also see our page for Portsmouth.
